Where y'all putting the smoke probe?

Those of you who are taking the temps from inside your PBC, where are you putting the smoker probe?

I've thought about rigging up a "cable guide with a binder clip attached to the rebar and just letting the probe hang.

If doing a full load I wrap my cable around the rebars and then back over itself so that the probe will hang as close to center, and about halfway down the length of whatever meat. If I'm only hanging 1 or 2 small things (split chicken or 2 racks of ribs for instance) I will just hang the probe between the 2 and again halfway down the meat's length.

      ditto

I just wrap the probe cable once around the rebar and let it hang, keeping it about 2" or so away from any hanging meat so I'm getting the temp of the barrel and not the "meat shadow".

    I also hang it mid-meat-level .

I have a hole in mine just below the level of the rebar. Perfect fit for probe, then just stick it in. 🕶

Personally, I prefer to use one of the hooks. Run your probe in through a rebar hole, slip it into a pot clip, and hang the pot clip from the hook. It puts the probe at the right height in the barrel and doesn't interfere with removing the rebar should that become necessary.

Great idea! That would have never occurred to me.

Crappy pic, but I use foil to create a bridge with a hole in it. Feed the probe through the hole and hang it down in the barrel where the meat is.

Well to be honest, I have no intention of putting it where most people tell me to stick it!

Hey, ya can always try magnets like Jeff did down below. 😳

We have some small round powerful magnets on the 'fridge for putting up pictures, and whatnot. I put the probe through the grate clip and then use the magnet to affix the clip to the side wall of the barrel roughly in the middle. I don't even always use a probe when I use the PBC. It runs at whatever temp it feels like and always seems to produce good results.

I drilled a small hole in the lid, I place the probe through the hole. It is not the best reading spot, but I know it is about 25 F more towards the middle bottom.

I got tired of screwing around with the wire and probe when I was monkeying around with the food in the barrel. Now, The I take the lid off, the probe goes with it, and it is out of the way.

I have Maverick and Thermoworks Smoke units they both have a clip that fits in the grill. Checks the temp at food level. Both are wi-fi.
