    Rust after two cooks

    Hello, everyone.

I was cleaning out my 17-day old PBC this weekend when I noticed it has a rust (or at least, discoloration) patch on the interior bottom (see attached pic). I have the ash catcher, btw.

Do you think I should be concerned about this? I did email the company, and their response was that it would not affect the quality or longevity of the PBC. While I have no reason to not believe them, I hope to get some second opinions.

To me that looks like discoloration from heat, combined with some grease that got underneath the ash catcher, more than it does rust.

Mine does that, I believe it's common and normal from the heat.

        Agree with both above.

I have the same problem , I agree wtih jfmorris what he says . Next time I cook , I will take the charcoal basket out and use the heat gun to take a temp reading to see how hot the bottom gets .

I put a double folder layer of foil down on the bottom under my basket to catch drippings and help make ash cleanup a bit easier. You could also try that to keep the burnt gunk from building up down there. just gotta make sure the edges don't try to curl up and block the intake at all.

              Thanks, all!

This was an anniversary present, so I want to make sure to take extra good care of it!

I have the same thing in my PBC. I've had it for 3 years. I started getting some rust flakes.

I have the same thing and it’s more grease than anything and you’ll be fine.

Use fzxdoc 's method and put some foil under the ash catcher to catch the grease so you can toss it. I almost got rid of my PBC because chicken had a very bad smell and taste. Turned out it was because of the old grease. The foil trick fixed that so I kept the PBC. And grease that spills over I scrape out with a putty knife.

Yeah, you'll be fine. Both of mine have that. Not too worry!

I noticed when I put it the ash catcher on the bottom after emptying it the day after a cook, I would get some condensation under it. I've since put it on the rack when storing and all is well.
