Congrats on your new purchase . When my PBC was new I used the Big Green Egg High Performance kit , worked perfect . I
don`t think you will have problem Lava Lock is a quality product . I had to slice my gasket down the middle to fit in the groove of the lid .

Skip I've used that LavaLock product on my Webers and my pellet cooker. Easy to apply and does a great job for about 6 months of steady use. Then they simply degrade, start to compress and finally just peel off and become useless. I used all but a little bit of mine and will be looking for something better going forward. Bottom line I don't recommend that product.

Most PBC's don't need a gasket. I'd just leave it alone, let it build up enough gunk to seal naturally, and enjoy ... that's what I did with mine ...

(FWIW, you can hasten the "gunking" process by spraying a little cooking spray around the rim before each cook)

Like MBMorgan , I'd leave it be unless you find that it leaks after a few uses. I read some posts a couple of years ago about folks having problems with leaky lids, but have not seen any lately. I've had mine for almost 5 years, and never had a problem. After killing several trees worth of KBB, mine is now so tight that I can lift the whole barrel by the lid handle.

If you are going to add a gasket, I would add a rope style gasket. I will fit the lid much better and stay on much longer than a flat gasket.

I had to add a gasket and did that and it works just fine but I wouldn't add until necessary It was easy to clean when I had to

Like MBMorgan and johnec00 I just let my PBC gunk up. Did not take long and it has sealed very well.

I agree with others who say wait and see. You may not need one. My current PBC did not "spring a lid leak" until after a year or more of heavy use.

I dropped my lid not long after I got my PBC. I jost ordered another one (the send the entire accessory box BTW) and no I have 2 hook grabber and a dozen hooks. No leaks to report since the replacement arrived. It pains me to say it but the PBC has pushed $1k electric smoker to the bad kids corner. Why: It's a lot less messy (specifically grease) than the electric. Flavor (I like it pretty smoky) is E-Z with a few chunks of Apple wood or the hickory Kingsford briquettes (DO NOT USE BOTH TRUST ME). It was odd to me not sealing a smoker but the PBC is just magic... The holes for the rods may let out a lot of smoke but trust me, there can be too much of a good thing. PBC w/wood chunks = Smoky deliciousness and almost no clean up. #PBCFTW

Agreed, Raphaeld . Nothing can beat the easy cleanup with the PBC, especially if you line the bottom of the barrel with a double thickness of heavy duty aluminum foil to catch the ashes and grease. After the PBC is cold, just fold up the foil and dispose.

I have a PBC ash catcher but don't use it because it allowed the grease to run over its edge and underneath. So I still had to put down a double layer of heavy duty foil for the grease. After a few cooks, I took the catcher off.

I have 2 PBC and don't have any problems with leakage, just use it and it will seal it self
