    Lavalock gasket

Am wanting to put a Lavalock gasket on my PBC lid. What width strip do people use? Thanks, in advance.

This is the one I ordered.

I've yet to install it since I still have a good seal on my lid. I think the gunk buildup is helping. But if I need the seal, I have it ready to go.

If I was going to put one on the PBC, I would go with a rope gasket. They are better for surfaces that are not totally flat like the PBC. You have a rounded edge fitting into the lid.
If you are going to put the gasket in, I would make sure the rim are totally clean of grease and carbon, otherwise you will not get the gasket to stick.

Honestly, I would try spraying the underside of the lid, where the barrel meets the lid, with some oil to help for a layer of gunk. This should seal the PBC just fine. It has worked very well on both of my PBCs. Also, I always push down on the lid just to make sure that I have a solid seal. It will get better and better the more you cook.

Yea I have to agree with the rope type, I may switch to that. I've been using the Lavalock and although it's a good gasket initially, it fades quickly and begins to peel.

I am a gunk believer also. My PBC seals up nicely at the lid.

What thickness for the rope, do you think?

I used the lava lock gasket kit on my pbc and it made a big difference. It rocks along very steady now. I saw a YouTube that someone just purchased a tube of fire rated caulk from Lowe’s and ran a heavy bead on the inside of the lid. Then he put a layer of Vaseline on the barrel. Then he placed the lid on and pressed it down to seal the lid. The Vaseline keeps the caulk from sticking on the barrel. This is a much cheaper option. If I did it again this is how I would do it.

Did you use the Lavalock 12 High Performance gasket?

I put a Lavalock gasket on my PBC lid about a year ago. Really helped to stabilize temps. Would recommend it.

So, I ordered a Weber Kettle Gasket Kit on jercucolo's suggestion. Should come in a couple of days. Thanks for all the comments. I'll keep the thread posted.
