    Question for you PBC owners

I’m getting my deck/cooking area closer to being finished and thinking about a new cooker. I like the simplicity of the PBC but would it get too hot on the bottom to use on the deck?

I have a wooden deck, but no PBC. If I were to get one, I'd put pavers or bricks under it just to make sure.

It has a short stand, but I think I would put some pavers under it.

I agree with getting the pavers underneath

I put cement board under mine. It's cheap but doesn't last forever. When I did use my PBC cooking burgers, it did get really hot. Now I have mine on a flat roll around cart with cement board on top of the cart.

It does get hot, so I've put some pavers/stepping stones under mine. Gives me peace of mind.....The PBC is a great cooker, love the simplicity of it.

I'd put some newspaper underneath it.

I have a PBC on a wood deck. I put it on four concrete pavers from Home Depot that cost $1-$2 each.

My back patio is pavers. It has yet to leave any kind of discoloration or stains.

I think you have more risk with the chimney starter when dumping in the barrel and sparks start to fly. The space between barrel and deck keeps things pretty safe.

Thanks everyone, pretty much what I thought. If I go this route I’ll either build a tile covered stand or find some nice pavers. Now I need to do some reading about lighting it so as not to burn up the wooden deck...😂😂

Dadof3Illinois Honestly, I've not had any problems with starter chimneys and sparks. I light my chimney for my Weber on my deck all the time. My PBC is on pavers like shify shows, but the chimney sits down in the barrel on the grate until hot, then the grate is removed (I put the cold basket down in when lighting) and the (short) chimney is dumped on top. Nothing jumps out.

Personally, I never used my PBC on the wooden deck. As jecucolo observed, I'd be more worried about sparks than about radiant heat from the PBC itself.

Dadof3Illinois - Probably. It’s just so dry around here that I just never wanted to chance it.

Last night I ran the Pbc for about an hour and a half. I placed a temp probe under the unit and it hung around 100*. It would probably get in the 140* for long cook.
