    Mold in PBC

After bringing the PBC out of its long winter slumber, I noticed what is most likely mold on the re-bars, grate, and on the sides. Any tips for getting rid of it and getting my PBC back in action? Thanks!

Simple: Burn it out. Stand the rebars upright inside the barrel, leaving the holes open at the top. Throw in a full lit chimney and maybe even some wood for more heat. Crack the lid slightly and literally burn out the mold.

Or you can take a pressure washer to it, let dry and re-season it.

Yep - what they all said, plus follow the link that RobertC gave you. I had a mold issue in my offset last summer, and since learning to dry it out with a chimney of lit charcoal after cleanup, and before covering, have had no recurrence. You just gotta get all the grease and moisture out before covering for long term storage.

                  That is the correct answer!

Whenever I’m done cooking anything, even low and slow, I remove the drip pan and run the cooker wide open until it’s out of coal.

Just pressure washed the pk and it seemed to make little difference so "self-cleaning oven" mode is your best prevention.

I agree. I haven't found any value in trying to preserve partially-burned charcoal. Keep it uncovered and let it burn out.

I just found this post. I am curious. What is this storage thing you are talking about?
