    Prime Rib hanging vertically

Anyone do a whole prime rib hanging vertically on the PBC. I did one last year and was to scared to hang it so i put it on the rack. It turned out good but it barely fit. I am just really worried about ruining such a expensive piece of meat.

I hang across and trim enough off the ends to fit. Just like the PBC video. I don't think it's length:thickness ratio is close enough to that of brisket and ribs to hang vertically.

You should be safe hanging it. Prime rib is best medium rare, so it shouldn't fall into the coals. I would triple hook both sides of it to be safe.

I've done it once and I hung the PR horizontally. Turned out amazing!

I'm definitely going to have to try that. Did you do any kind of sear?

No sear. I had taken my PBC with me to visit relatives and that's all I had.

Going to try a 3 pound PR in the new PBJ this Christmas for its first cook. Plan on doing it horizontally like in their video.

Sgt Tyree Looking forward to your Christmas Prime Rib posting(s). I am in the market for a PBC before the end of the year. I saw the Jr on PBC's website when I went to look at the original. It is mostly just the wife and I nowadays as we are empty nesters. But there are still the family reunion times to look forward to.

I have a 14" barrel cooker and with one kid off to college we're down to three in the household. I don't have reservations firing up the 14" for us, nor have I had a problem putting together a dinner for a dozen. With the 14" I might think twice about doing dinner for 20.

I think the JR would be big enough. I have the original and want a JR for ease of transportation etc. And the same just me and the wife with friends

Thanks for the update Sgt... Robert and Blake, thanks for your input.. Aside from the PBC being about 4" larger in circumference, would the only other distinguishing feature be the lesser amount of charcoal it uses? Or are there other features worthy of mention?
