What to cook on my new PBC?

Well I finally did it. I sold my GMG DB and got a PBC. I won't get home till this weekend, so I have time to decide on its Virgin cook. I can't decide on Ribs, Brisket or a Turkey? What do ya'll think? Any suggestions? I just restocked my freezer w/ 40 pounds of pulled pork, Lol, so no pork shoulders. I throw Turkey in because "Turkey Day" is approaching. Any other ideas?

IMO, for the first cook, toss a chicken in. It's a fast cook and instant gratification. A good way to check your thermometer setup, test for lid leaks etc. while having good eats pronto.

Here's how I do chicken on the PBC to get a juicy bird with crispy skin: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...668#post186668

    Day 2: Ribs
    Day 3: Brisket
    Day 4: Turkey
    Day 5: Bacon-covered meatloaf
    Day 6: Pastrami
Day 7: Rest and eat leftovers

I don't think you can go wrong taking PBC advice from Kathryn. She knows a thing to two about that barrel.....

Kathryn I'm starting to like your idea. Chicken has always been my Achilles heel. I need to study the link you shared a couple more times though. I understand the PBC is a completely different animal than my stick burner, kettle or any other I have or had. Where to do you place your cooker probe to monitor pit temps when hanging with no grate?

Company2BBQ , I wrap the cable once around a rebar and let the pit probe dangle about mid-level of the meat, a couple of inches away from it. The cable is of course fed through the rebar hole.

Oh, and watch Noah's video on smoking chicken. You'll learn a lot from it too.

Don't make the first cook too complicated. Just enjoy.

My maiden voyage was ribs, so that is my recommendation.

I did ribs first, but only because I hadn't been able to do them on my tiny kettle grill for so long. My second type of cook was chicken - it was so easy, so fast, and so delicious - not to mention way cheaper than ribs. That'd be a great way to kickstart things!

I would say ribs or pork shoulder. They are both pretty forgiving and the PBC does a great job cooking both.

I'd say pick anything that cooks fairly quickly and that can be hung on the hooks. As others have suggested, ribs and chicken are good first choices. Tri-tip would be good, too ...

Well it's been solved. I posed my delima to my wife and she didn't skip a beat. "Why don't you do the ribs on Saturday and a Brisket on Sunday?" <<<<<sitting here shaking my head>>> damn, I love my wife. Shes brilliant. Costco here I come. Between the GMG and my kettle w/ the Slow-n-Sear, she's gotten spoiled. Good for me I think.
