    New Toy

I got home from work today and this baby was waiting in the driveway.

Originally the plan was to try it out tomorrow but... new toy. I had a nice lamb shoulder roast that I was planning to cook in the oven but since I got home from work a little early there didn't seem to be any choice but to try the PBC.

All in all I found the cooker extremely easy to use and control following the sticky on this sub forum. That being said the family didn't love the meal and I wasn't thrilled with the results. I took it out around 135 which and it was actually not as tender as when we make the same cut in the oven which we often do on Friday nights. I'm going to chalk that up to a fluke and also that the roast was partially frozen in the center when I stared the cook.

Congrats on the new toy. I'm sure you will get the flavor and tenderness worked out.

This proves that Santa works all year long! As for the cook - I have never made a really good meal the first time around on a new BBQ. Seasoning and learning are all part of the experience and fun. Don't ever forget that you were unhappy with your first cook so that down the road when someone has a similar comment about their first cook on a PBC you can throw in your experience. Your photos are really good.

employee of mine at work got a "woody", very similar to the PBC. Swore it was junk. I had him take it to my house and we cooked a pork butt on it and it came out great. PLEASE don't give up. Remember kitchen doesn't alwaystranslate to pit. your oven may run ho, or cold, or have less or more draft in the oven. Lamb to me, is a very pickey meat (like goat which we raise) keep at it. I promise, you will bethe center star of dinner if you do some work on it and figure it out.the PBC is SOLID, just a different piece of machinery.

"since I got home from work a little early there didn't seem to be any choice but to try the PBC." Lol! One wonders if that was just a tough ol hunk o' lamb, maybe he was the athlete of the lamb ranch.
