I've been looking at the PBC since the end of 2015 and never pulled the trigger, until just now. I kept going back and forth between the PBC and a WSM but my mind always wandered back to the PBC. There's just "something" about it that kept luring me back. Super excited to get it in and get going.

Cool! It's definitely a blast unpacking it and reading through fzxdoc's lighting instructions & how-to posts and putting them to use. The PBC is a chicken cooking machine, and you have arguably the world's best support team right here.

phoccer ...
Your MCS has been quelled temporarily. You might need a few gadgets/accessories though for this new cooker. Don't think for a minute you've been cured.😬 Once you've tamed your new PBC you will unconsciously start noticing other cookers that do something your existing cookers can't do, and the process starts all over again.😡

Congrats on the new PBC! Proper and consistent lighting is the secret to success. Don't get fancy at first ... just make sure your lower vent is adjusted correctly for your altitude. Here in the Pit, fzxdoc and others have done a great job of compiling and documenting a very effective lighting procedure that generally works when the simpler PBC version doesn't. Personally, I'd advise you to carefully follow the basic PBC lighting procedure to see how your barrel wants to behave before trying any thing more complex. Then, do NOT exhaust yourself trying to chase temperatures ... let the PBC do its thing, monitor it closely, keep records, and only start tweaking if it really becomes necessary ... and, of course, enjoy!

When I got my 26 last year I told my wife that I was done with cookers for a while.......
The PBC is on my birthday wish list.
Congrats. It's a great cooker and I'm sure you will love it. Something about hanging meat in a barrel just gives me the warm fuzzier.

You have this whole MCS thing all wrong. In my youth? I was running IT for a big direct marketing company. All those catalogs that used to show up in everyone's mailbox. Before the web.
Mail order companies always rented their mailing list names to each other. The most expensive category was called "hotlines". Know what they are? People who just bought from your company in the last 30 days. Marketing folks considered them the most likely people to make another purchase. And, by the way, the statistics said they were right.
So, MCS is not appeased by making a purchase. It's enhanced
Best regards,
Jim

BTW, I'm totally cured. Got the 14.5 WSM in December 2013. Never even opened the box and had the virus problem in my heart. Took a long time to come back from that. Then, I got to open and use the WSM, as the doctor told me to watch the salt (that means cook for yourself)
Last summer I got the KJ Classic with all the accessories plus table, Flame Boss 200, KJ Joe Blow.
lighter, One cook and I ended up in the hospital with the burst aneurysm.
My brain now associates acquiring BBQ gear with going to the hospital. I've got enough
