    Weighing Down

I was horrified earlier in the week to get home from work and find that the wind had taken my PBC for a tumble. While it looks to be fine I was hoping for advice on avoiding this happening again. I don't have much storage space so keeping it outside is a necessity. It stays covered when not in use with the PBC cover fitting well so it doesn't seem to be making it anymore of a kite. Anyone have method(s) for keeping a PBC grounded? Thanks!

Wow we had 60mph gusts the other day and mine was fine.
What does your PBC sit on? Deck, pavers, ground, and etc?

@Ischweig it is on a concrete patio and yeah, was gusting over 80mph. Usually isn't a problem but made me start thinking. Thanks!

I think I would maybe tapcon in a couple of attachment points to the concrete and then put bungee cords or strapping to the barrel handles or even over the entire unit.

        80mph gusts are insane.

As the legs are not attached to the barrel you will need to "strap" to the barrel handles or over the entire unit.

I was gonna say we've had 50 to 60 mph winds (im in Flat west Texas) and no problem. But 80 mps Wow If that is gonna be a regular occurrence I think @Ischweig 's idea is your best bet.

I've had strong winds blow my Weber Smokey Mountain over a couple of times. When not in use I just corral it up against some of my other grills.

Both the WSM and the PBC have legs that could easily be clipped to attachment points at ground level like @Ischweig suggests. Would be quick and easy to just use a few cheap carabiners to attach the PBC legs to those tie downs.

If you didn't want to put some tie downs in your actual patio you might get 4 of those 18" square concrete pavers at Home Depot and arrange those in a square to put your PBC on and then just put the tie downs into the pavers.

Unfortunately the PBC legs aren't physically attached to the barrel. They are attached to a ring on which the barrel rests.

If you've got nothing to lash it to, then I'd just go out and lay it on its side whenever those gentle Front Range breezes are forecast to blow ...

I did not know that. Thought they were physically attached to the bottom of the barrel.

You can always strap it to your deck, post, tree or whatever. You could even use a bungee cord.

Put a cinder block inside the barrel. And take it off the stand.

This would be my strategy. And with wind like that, maybe find a corner to push it into if possible.

If you use a cinder block do remove it before cooking as it could very well explode!

I got it but you never know better to forewarn. LOL

Thanks for the suggestions! I have some extra landscaping pavers that sounds like a good immediate solution. Bungee cords has me thinking... Will be expanding the patio this summer and three anchor points set in would be pretty doable.
