    PBC custom turkey hangers

    Hey all,

Hope everyone's summer has been great! Haven't been around much this year. I moved and haven't gotten to do as much smoking as I would like getting other projects done. I just ordered a PBC(should be here Friday) to go along with my Kettle/SnS and I noticed they have some turkey hangers available. I guess my question would be is, for those that have them, how much of a value are they(the turkey hangers that is). As in, are they a gotta have item if you do a lot of poultry or are the standard hooks good 'nuff?

I like mine... If i'm too lazy to split a bird then it is easy to use it instead... i'm not trusting enough for hooks to hold a heavy bird up... afraid I will lose it if I don't get the hook placement just right or if the bird starts to pull apart....

I serial hook a lot of split chickens though with no problem.

I would recommend getting a second hook remover (especially if you get the turkey hanger) and a second set of hooks if you plan on doing larger volume cooks.

I have 2. Honestly I prefer to spatchcock turkey. It's faster to cook and I think it tast better.

        ^+1 What jecucolo says.

For chickens, I like smoking them split like Noah shows in his video. I like using that bar from the turkey hanger that fits over both rebars for hanging my sausage basket while I've got 4 or 6 chicken splits hooked and hanging from the rebars.

Double what Guest says! But I like the hanger for turkey...

I smoked a turkey when I first bought my PBC and ran hooks as shown in the old video Noah had as the turkey hanger was not yet available. It required four hooks and was a bit of a pain. It did fine and tasted great but the turkey hanger is much easier. I think it's worth the money.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I typically like to spatchcock all the birds I cook too so I may just stick with the regular hangars.
