First cook on PBC, Signature Chicken.

Got my PBC today. Currently on my virgin cook. I decided to go with the PBC Signature chicken. I have 2 chickens on now. I put a few good sized chucks of Apple wood. I know Noah the owner of the company says to try it with out wood the first time but I have yet to try to try any smoked food that had too much smokey flavor or even got close.

I followed Kathryn's lighting instructions and everthing looks to be going perfect. I used foil on the bottom under the basket like she recommended. I sprayed done canola oil on the bottom before I put the foil on to keep it from moving around on me since it's very windy. Stuck down well. I know they say no seasoning required but I wanted to get a thick coat of stickiness right away to ensure no leaks thru the lid or help.

I gotta say I'm impressed with the quality of this smoker. I don't care that it's just a barrel the lid fits very well and the thickness of the metal is pretty good. It's well built especially for the money.

I will post picks of the final results.

Good luck. I was thinking about cooking some chicken in the Pit Barrel while at work. Not hard where I work to have chicken on the mind.

Yeah I'm gonna do some Friday cooks with the PBC at my work too. Everyone is asking me too after the samples I have been bringing to work for everyone when I go back to work on Mondays

I can go for some PBC chicken but my bro has my barrel. He's actually gonna cook some chicken on it tomorrow. I warned him that he's gonna want to buy a PBC after.

Looks great, jbeck1986 . Those two halves won't last long either. I'm cooking a couple of 8 lb roasters in my PBC this coming week, along with some sausages in my sausage basket modified to hang in the PBC ( see here ). The fat dripping off those sausages adds even more flavor to the chicken cooking along with them, IMO.

Let us know about your next cook now that you've mastered chickens on the PBC!

        Best wishes,
        Kathryn

NICE JOB! I agree with all the above. Fantastic looking if it were your hundredth cook, especially so for your maiden voyage.

Congratulations on your PBC purchase and first cook. I have cooked probably 100 chickens or more on mine, and
                never had a bad one.
Quoting Huskee - "looking as if it were your hundredth cook". I have a friend that cooked a turkey with hooks
last year for Thanksgiving and company. It was his first cook, not only with a PBC, but his first Barbeque anything. Ever.
He's 80 or 81 years old and did nothing all his life except work (farming). I talked him into a PBC and he trusted my
input. Thankfully, the turkey came out fantastic. So now he has become the master smoker in his circle. You just can't miss with a PBC!
