Chrome plate chipping off meat hooks

Greetings to all. I have a new PBC and after my second cook, I noticed that the chrome finish is chipping off of the meat hooks. One of them had developed a 1/4 inch thorn-like splinter. Before I contact the company, I was wondering if this has happened before?

I ordered an extra 8 hooks when I got mine a month ago... A number of the 16 hooks had barb/splinters in the curve part... I was able to wash some off with some care but I have been wondering the same things as you... however I haven't had an issue since then.

Hi fullernet and welcome. With regard to your hooks chipping, I do not see how that is possible as they made from stainless steel and are not plated. http://www.pitbarrelcooker.com/produ...ooks-set-of-8/. I would not hesitate to contact Noah (his cell number is on the barrel label plate). He sets the customer service bar very high from my experience.

I have 16 hooks and have seen nothing of the sort. I just recently went through all of them for cooking and used a wire scrub pad to clean and they're still like new.

I thought they were supposed to be stainless, as mentioned; but, this sure looks like plating peeling off. I will contact Noah tomorrow and post the resolution to this thread.

Noah takes calls 24/7. Not that you need to do that. 🤔

I'm curious to know what that coating is, so I eagerly await your update, fullernet .

Like Jerod Broussard , I've got 16 hooks. I scrub them with the 3M green scrubber in soap/water after each cook. They're as shiny as ever and perfectly smooth.

Call the company. Having some sort of metal plating that could chip off in your food is unacceptable. I have zero experience with the PBC, but from what I have read here the company seems to have excellent customer service so I am sure that they will sort it out for you.

Well mine are stained, but that's because I use a plastic-y scouring pad... If I used a scotchbrite or brillo they'd be clean as a whistle. No chips or nicks in any of my 8 hooks either. That's a surprise and I imagine you just got a bad batch. I expect Noah will make good on that for sure. If there is one person on earth who cares about the customer, its Noah.

No issues for me with any of my hooks either. Hopefully and likely an isolated incident.

I have returned the hooks as you requested. Hope you can figure out what went wrong. Angela was great to work with and the return process went smoothly. Like everyone says, your customer service is as good as your cooker.

Curious to see how this would happen, since they are all stainless.

I think stainless can delaminate after severe corrosion. I've had the flavorizor bar in my Weber gasser do his and hey claim they are stainless

I've been working around stainless fo 50 years, I have not seen it chip or demlinate, there several grades of stainless, I have seen it rust and have seen it be magnetic depending what the steel content is.

I contacted PBC and they got right back to me, as noted above. Angela said they had not seen this problem before. She immediately issued an invoice for a replacement set of hooks and asked that I return the original set for analysis, which I have done. Couldn't ask for better customer service.

Nate , Why don't you contact them about your hooks, as well, to help them get to the bottom of this issue.

Since I'll be hook-less for the 4th, I'll just smoke a turkey with the excellent turkey hanger this weekend and I've got an idea for a way to hang a brisket from the turkey hanger for the fourth.

Thanks to all for the comments and observations and, again, to PBC for the excellent support.

honestly i didn't think much of it till i saw this post. Like i said mine was just like little barbs or metal shavings. my wife found them when doing the initial wash. We just scrubbed them good and haven't really had a problem since....
