    Temporary PBC hook alternative?

We're on our annual family trip to the river. I brought my PBC, which worked well for hot dogs last night. Tomorrow, I'm going to cook ribs and chicken - but I just realized I forgot to pack my hooks! With all the chaos & drama involved in packing up, it's amazing that's all I forgot.

I am about 30 or so miles from a town with a hardware store, so I'll be making a trip today. I wanted to see if anyone has a suggestion on what I can grab that'll get me through this one cook.

How about a roll of ss wire? Just wrap the meat with wire and use another piece to suspend it.

JDenver Yeah wire will work fine. Mot ideal but it will work. Also, large S hooks will work too. but that might get a bit more pricey than you want.

If you use S hooks, which is what immediately came to mind, make certain you get the stainless steel variety. Don't get anything galvanized.

Here's to great cooks and even better memories with your family!

I wonder how j bolts would work. They have threads on one end so you'd need a rod coupling between them. But I could see them working well.

Wire coat hangers just cut to fit, two per rib

I'd be concerned about a coating on them vaporizing in the heat.

              Insert Joan Crawford joke.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I had to go into town earlier than I planned, so I missed some of the posts. I had trouble finding SS wire - I could only find braided wire and I didn't think that would be easy enough to use. I ended up at a place where the guy suggested I buy 1/4 inch steel rods that they could cut to length for me and I could bend into shape. He just suggested I put the wire on the heat for a bit to cure it after I shaped it. We ended up guesstimating that 14"rods should work. When I got back to the cabin, I started bending the rods to how I feel like the PBC hooks look. I'll be trying them out later today. Wish me luck! I'll update when I know how it all turns out.

The cook worked out great! I would've posted sooner, but internet connection was sloooooow. Everyone raved about the ribs and the chicken. Now that it's over and I see my PBC hooks, I see I should've bent the hooks slightly different - but all worked out. Pictures below. Sorry I didn't get photos of the finished product - I'm always too concerned with cutting and plating to think of pics. Once I poured the hot coals on the unburned coals, I laid the hooks on the coals for the 10 minutes of lid off to let them cure. I let them cool for the 10 minutes of lid on before hanging the meat.
