    Yardbird on the PBX - hang or grate ?

    I've been hanging my chickens, but considering using the cooking grate today .

    I like the idea of hanging, because the air flow comes up along the side of the meats. Rather than collide into a bird laying flat.

    But I would also like to eliminate the rods across the top. I have magnets to cover the rod holes and I think I can control exhaust better with the magnets, than stuffing foil around the rods.

    I can't decide. Does it make a lot of difference ?

    Hang them. I think it produces a better product. You can still use the magnets on the holes that you are not using for the rod.

      I hang chicken halves on my PBC and like that but I think a spatchcocked yardbird would look great on a PBX rack!

        I've got two chickens and they're already halved. I'm leaning to hanging like I always do.

        I hung'em high !!

        Had a great cook. Billows was rock solid. I've added a little stack to my PBX. I closed off the rod holes and ran it using the damper on the stack. Really happy with it.

        One got done way ahead of the other three. I have no explanation for why, probably where it was located in the PBX.

        I always hang but not opposed to riding one flat. Give it a try !!
