Hang a steak, sear with a torch?

I normally grill my beloved ribeyes on my webber kettle. I put them on indirect side, bring them up to temp and then sear over the coals. I was thinking of trying something new, hang them in the pit until they come up to temp and then using a torch to sear them. Anyone do this? How are the results? Or am I being silly and just keep doing this on the Kettle?

I say give it a try.
Finding new and different ways to do the same old same old helps keep it fun.
Keep us posted if you decide to try it...

Nope, not silly at all. I saw a vid once of a guy doing just that, only not bringin it to temp, but whole cook which was very short!

These folks have thought about it:

They reference "the off-putting aromas that typically result when cooking with blowtorches," which may just be a sales pitch. They also note that their new version is compatible with MAPP gas. Not sure why the old one wasn't, if it was a cooking issue or not, but something to consider.

MAPP gas burns much hotter. So in essence it should get the desired crust quicker cutting down on any “off putting aromas”. I’ve tried both without much difference either way.

I have a MAPP torch. I’ll give it a try and try to document with pictures!

Yeah, Yellow bottle. But I use the Blue bottle for roasting marshmallows.
