You've got a lot of life left in that PBC, Michael_in_TX . My PBC is still going strong after more than 10 years, and the OP's PBC ( atlpbc ) didn't spring a hole until after 12 years.
Relax and keep her clean. Ash is corrosive, for sure, but then you already know that.
New one on the way!!!. My partner loves the meat product so much she did not want to wait another minute. We have a ham and a brisket plus some ribs ready to be smoked.
BTW, it should be noted...I LOVE THE PIT BARREL COOKER!
Sometimes life hands you the need to upgrade whether it be a grill, car, boat or spouse. Even if you’ve spent a ton of time and a fortune in maintenance sometimes the time just comes. I’ve always been very happy with the upgrades and accessories I’ve found. I wish you the best in your’s also.
I couldn't hazard a guess on total weight cooked. I will say we, as a couple, cook very frequently via the PBC. All year round. I love the simplicity and the results!

I see that you already have a new one on the way, but would buying the charcoal basket extend the old one’s life?
There were probably a number of methods to "extend" the life of my current smoker. The aluminum foil cover I made yesterday allowed me to create a perfect pork shoulder. However, it was a perfect opportunity to upgrade, gain some accessories at a discount and allow my partner to be fully onboard. LOL.
i'm the same way, smoke it, once done i leave the lid off for that cleansing high burn and them MAYBE...dump out the ashes before next cook but mostly i don't. Use and Abused. Best meat cooker ever
