    GrillGrates for PBC-

I was digging around on the GrillGrates site and they make a set custom cut for the PBC......

And for the life of me, I can't figure out what the hell J would need those for.

Does anyone have them? If so, have they been helpful?

Adding GrillGrates (upside down) to half my gasser was a game changer!!
I love them and recommend them to everyone.

I love the PBC!! Although I don't use it as often since I got the SnS kettle......

These are two amazing products but I don't see how they'd work together? Wondering if I'm missing out on something amazing.....

I never got it either. The PBC is not a good grilling platform anyway. Plus, GGs are a PITA to deal with, unless they are in a gasser and used to replace the stock grates and the. never moved again. Personally, I got sick of them on my kamados. They always slid around and then you’d have to store the panels which just ended up falling onto the patio over and over again.

I love the GGs on my WSJ, but don't see a good use on the PBCj.

Yeah... I think those Grillgrates for the PBC only make sense for someone who has no other grills. Let's face it. The PBC is not a grill, and I wouldn't want to be trying to flip burgers with that grate recessed down in there.

I've got a love/hate relationship with Grillgrates. I first discovered them when I bought a used Weber Performer Deluxe, which came with a set of Grillgrates. They are great on the kettle for letting me do full zone direct grilling, without worrying about flareups and such. I.e. if I wanted to flip burgers or grill chicken and use the entire kettle capacity, Grillgrates are a game changer. But as Spinaker points out, they do slide aorund on top of the grate. And cleaning becomes a pain in the butt after a while.

Based on the experience on the kettle, and after reading about them here, I got Grillgrates initially for my Genesis Silver A two burner gas grill, then later for my Genesis II E-410 4 burner gas grill. I loved them for a long time there - until a grease fire UNDER the Grillgrates nearly destroyed the 18 month old Genesis II - all in the 10 minute preheat I was doing before coming out with a couple of steaks. Two of the 7 Grillgrate panels had to be replaced due to bad warping, and I had to do some mechanical work to bend the warped firebox of the grill back to where I could close the lid. Since then, I've been kind of leary of using the full replacement set on my gas grill, and tend to use 2/3 of them with one of the stock grates at the end of the grill. That way, if there were ever a grease fire, the heat has somewhere to go, without getting trapped under those panels and damaging the grill again. All the "smoke" colored finish (kinda tan colored) on the outside of that end of the grill's firebox got burned off too.

No need. Pit Barrel is used exclusively for smoking. The Kettle gets the grilling done.

I bought a set of GG right after I bought my PBC. I don't use them often because of the difficulty in cleaning them. Oh, and my lovely bride bought me a Blackstone.

They fit very snuggly on the grate, and I've never had a problem with them scooting around during usage.

I agree. It seems like a bad idea. I never was able to grill anything with the PBC so it is not a great choice for a single cooker.

I heard all the 'You can't grill with a PBC'. I refused to accept that limitation and decided to think outside the barrel.

I've had great success grilling in my PBC. I bought a Lodge campfire stand that lifts the firebox a foot off the floor.

The fire gets plenty hot with less than a chimney full of coals. It sears steak perfectly and imparts a wonderfully smoky flavor.

Direct Heat cooking is popular now. Chuds sells a Chud Box (direct heat cooker) that allows 17-21 in of distance between the charcoal and grill grate, i think he sells other accessories to drop the grate lower to the heat source for steak / burger searing if needed. I personally elevate the grill grate on my Weber Summit Kamado and use it as a direct heat griller/cooker. I really like the smokey flavors it produces too from beef, chicken or spare rib pork fat dripping into the lump coals.

Before I had my SnS kettle, I would put a cinder block in the PBC to raise the basket up, to do wings.

It was a pain, but it worked.

Now I just use the vortex in my kettle

I do all my direct heat grilling with my 22" Weber Kettle.
