    Charcoal?

What kind is everyone using. I use Grove lump charcoal. Burns nice and seems to last a long time.

Kingsford Blue Bag original briquettes in the PBC. If I can ever find Kingsford Competition locally (still looking) I'll use that for hotter cooks like poultry. B&B comes highly recommended, too ...

Rib cooks or one brisket or butt I can get by with the Blue and White Kingsford.

Once the briskets or butts multiply I run B & B hardwood briquettes with somewhat of a layer of Kingsgford on top for lighting. I can get almost twice the burn time out of the B & B over the Kingsford.

B & B lump has done well also, especially for hot turkey cooks.

I use Royal Oak lump in my BGE and Kingsford blue in my Weber Jumbo Joe.

How do you like your Jumbo Joe? I've had my eye on them for a while now.

I've liked my tests with Stubbs lately.

If Jerod Broussard likes B&B Hardwood Briquettes, then I'll need to try them!

No PBC here, but I use Kingsford Original. Get it one sale during the summer holidays and it's cheap, dependable, and since I use wood chunks on every cook I still control my flavors without needing premium flavored charcoals.

I have had good luck with Cowboy Lump. Just tried a bag of B & B Hickory lump and liked that had more uniform pieces in it than the Cowboy.

Kingsford Blue on the Pit Barrel for me. I always get at Lowes around the summer holidays at half off plus military discount . Comes out to between 20-25 cents a pound. A full load is then under $2.00. Just can not beat that price, and it is what Noah recommends using, anyway.

Royal Oak Lump in the BGE. Works well and is half price of BGE Brand. It's suppose to be the same stuff. I would like to try some Fogo or B&B Lump but can't find it in Minnesota.

I buy Kingsford (regular) whenever it is on sale in order to keep a nice stock. I use it exclusively for starting my coal bed then switch to large chunk or split log post oak. For flavors, I use smaller chuck of various woods.

I find the Kingsford is consistent and makes a nice bed to start.

Isn't lump charcoal supposed to be better for cooking because it doesn't have all the chemicals that regular kingsford charcoal has?

As of January 2016, Kingsford Competition has been re-branded to Kingsford Professional. It will probably start showing up in more locations than it has been. It will still fetch a higher price than the Original.

I'm still a rookie on briquettes. I've been using Kingsford original and find no problems with it. I'll look for the Kingsford Professional for chicken cooks.

Lump... BGE's lump is so high priced they really ought to be charged for highway robbery.

I buy my lump at Smart & Final. The brand in BEST OF THE WEST, it's 100% mesquite charcoal. It's imported from Mexico. It sells for $18 for a 40lb bag.

I personally find very little difference in lump. Some bags have to much really small pieces and dust but I think that's true of all lump producers. It really depends on what portion of the storage bin they bagged your bag from. I've never bought a bag of lump that I couldn't get 18 hours of burn time in my large BGE without refilling the fire box.

If anyone comes across Grove lump they should try it out. It's about $19 for 40lbs here.
