Worth Upgrading to the New Pit Barrel?

Hey Folks, been awhile since I have posted, hope everyone had a good Holiday. So I haven't been able to cook for a long time unfortunately, but finally washed down my Pit Barrel, and Smoked some chicken last night. I was going to post pics, but the chicken was eaten before I remembered. It came out exceptional as usual. My question I have is that I was an idiot and left my Pit Barrel outside without a cover for almost 5 months , during rainy season in Florida.. While washing it down, it obviously has rusted quite a bit, and looks horrible, but my cook last night was perfect. Temps stayed between 290-300 the entire time which is where I personally like it to be. Is it worth getting the new one?

I always cover my grills, they are an investment.
I'd upgrade. And get a weber grill cover for it.

Heck, even the devices that I store in my garage I keep covered.

The PBC folks sell a replacement barrel and lid (if that's all you need) for $169. They also sell a decent cover for $30.

Mine get pretty wet covered or not, mostly from humidity, and with the temp fluctuations we get my cover only lasted about a year.

As Mike said above you can get just the barrel for $169 here, not a bad investment considering it should handle the weather much better.

Yea I am definitely going to invest in the upgrade... Just impressed that my pit barrel still holds perfect temps after sitting out during a florida summer with the heat, humidity and constant storms... it's a quality product.

Do the Pit Barrel people make a cover for it? I keep all of my outdoor cookers covered when not in use especially up here in Michigan.

Yes, I have the cover made by PBC and haven't had any issues with it.

The Pit Barrel company makes a form fitting cover that works perfectly for me. It isn't too tight to get on and off easily, and is has withstood the sun, rain, and wind here in the California Bay Area. Sorry, but I can't tell if it would hold up to the snowstorms some of you get!

You could get some high temp rustoleum paint and touch her up, as long as she's not rusted through. I've done this on my big smoker when the fire box gets looking a little rusty and it works great.

I wouldn't do anything. Maybe runs some sand paper over it and re paint with stove pipe black paint. but other than that. I wouldn't do anything. Just keep on trucking.
