This might be a dangerous charcoal starter question.

I am planning on making a few things this weekend on my PBC. I do not own a PBC chimney.

My question is, can I use a Weber Small Chimney or another brand to work? Does the size of the chimney start make a big difference?

    Thanks in advance

You can use any chimney starter you want. But it should be able to hold aprox. 40 briquettes. If so, you’re good to go.

        You'll be fine.

In fact, the PBC small chimney is calibrated to hold 40 KBB briquettes. After we've filled the charcoal basket level, some of us -- including myself -- manually count out 40 briquettes to put in the PBC chimney to light.

Yes all the half chimmney's will work to light your PBC. 🔥🔥🔥❤️🐿

Yup. A chimney and some charcoal bag work every time for every cooker. Brand doesn't matter, consistency does

The shorter chimneys work better inside the PBC, and as many have said, any short chimney will do. I use the CharBroil Half Time chimney. Cheap and peppy.

hell i've even contemplated throwing 2 charcoal starter cubes directly into the charcoal basket and seeing if it will light that way, save a step!

That will work, but you had better have loads of time for the PBC to get up to cooking temp.

I've been doing that with my Bronco, but used 3 starters, it does take a while, I suppose 4 would be quicker, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

I have both the PBC chimney and the small Weber chimney and prefer the small Weber chimney which holds 40 and is short enough to easily dump in the PBC. Quit using the PBC chimney because it takes forever to get fully lit coals due to it's short wide shape.

Tall chimneys are harder to gently dump the coals inside, but of course will work fine the same otherwise.

Note for PBJ users, it's 20 briquettes per Pitbarrelcooker.com.

Well for 20 I guess you could make yours our of a quart sized coffee can!

Tip: A KBB briquette weighs 25 grams, so there are 18 of them to a pound. Rather than count out 40 briquettes each time, I scratched a little mark on the side of my chimney then fill up to that line. Basically, I use the chimney like a measuring cup.
