UDS cleaning question (creosote buildup)

Last month i fired up the uds to cook some pork chops.
I put them on then went to do something else. Came back 20 minutes later to the cooker smoking like a dumpster fire.
The problem was the (supermarket) meat was losing a lot of water on the coals.
The inside of the drum was coated in a thick sticky black tar-like substance.
Took me two hours cleaning it. The pressure washer was absolutely useless, i ended up scrubbing with green sponges (used 5 of them).
I also tried burning it with a propane torch, but it also got rid of the paint on the other side.

Do you guys have experience dealing with this?

I don't have a UDS, but on the Pit Barrel, I just use a 1 1/2 inch putty knife. It's a little bit of work, but gets the job done. Power washing didn't work well for me either. Just made me wet and made the dog lick the patio.

One trick I learned about putty knives, sharpen the edge once in a while. Don't have to make it razor sharp, just enough to put a slight bevel on the blade. And be careful with it!

Edit: forgot to mention, you'll probably want to warm up the UDS a bit before scraping. Should make it easier.

Thanks for the tip. Funny thing is i used one to deep clean the offset last year, just totally forgot about it!

I just let my Pit Barrels burn it out after a cook.
Haven't needed to clean the Barrels, just the lid needs scraping once in a great while.

Maybe it's time for me to let go of the factory paint and let that drum get real hot.
