I’ve been less then satisfied with booze lately, I’m looking to shift a few directions. One is switching from whiskey or whisky to a neat, iced rum. Picked up a bottle of Appleton Estate yesterday. Any other people in here experienced in enjoying rum straight. What are some others I should consider trying? I’m looking also to pair with cigars, so I picked up a few cigars I thought my go with it, from Camacho Rum barrel aged cigars

I do, however some of my fav’s from the past have gotten to peaty for me, I used to believe them to be sweeter, hence losing my enjoyment for scotch.

Some good sweeter, non-peaty Scotches are The Balvenie Doublewood, Glenmorangie Lasanta and The Macallan 12 year - all sherry finished Scotches.
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is also a little sweeter and not peaty, though not sherry-finished.

Older Plantation rum can be quite good. Had a 2002 that was yummy. Older rum is actually reasonable in cost, too.

Yeah, I can likely buy a far better bottle of rum in cost then I can a scotch, not having to be stuck to one country opens that up a bit. Which I can appreciate

Richard Chrz - watch out for all the young/specialty Plantation stuff that places sell. That's meant for drinks, etc. You want things that are 15 year old or so.

That's a good rum. My Brother in Law got me into some older Flor de Cana Rums, which are pretty good too. I've had some good Four Square and Plantation Rums too. If you ever see any Rolling Fork Rums, grab one as they are truly fantastic.
Have you tried any American Single Malts? We tasted thru four last week which were all fantastic. We had a Stranahan's Diamond Peak, a Santa Fe Colkegan, a Del Bac Classic, and a Balcones Lineage. Really opened my eyes to the fact that American Single Malts may be the next big thing in Whiskey.

I like this idea too. Looks like most of the brands mentioned so far are not sweet so they should be fun sipping rums. You really can’t drink it straight if it is Captain Morgan’s.

Another of my favorite liquors is Cachaça. Some people equate it to rum but it's different. It's better.

Cachaça is a variety of Rhum Agricole. They are made of fermented cane squeezing's instead of Molasses.
I enjoy Barbancourt from Haiti.
I stopped trying newer runs because it seems like everything tastes like drinking a bottle of vanilla extract. I blame it Captain Morgan and the trend lemming generations.
