Panhead John now my daughters might not be happy... They don't need to be spending their money (which sometimes probably is my money!!!) at that place anyway.
I always stayed in Marriots when traveling for work, and they always had Starbucks. Since I got to expense it, I would buy their coffee. I thought it was overpriced and average tasting. My SIL, on the other hand, would drink Starbucks every day if he could.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I drink my coffee black, and Starbucks tends to over-roast their beans to the point of bitterness, so it is my least favorite black coffee. If I meet someone there for some reason, I tend to go with their blonde roast, as it is the most palatable of their offerings (to me).
I used to call them "5 Bucks", as every time we went by (because of the wife), all the kids wanted a frothy frappacino milkshake thing of some sort, while I wanted the $2 black coffee. Now I feel like it is 6-7 bucks a pop for those things, at least. But thankfully, the kids are out of the nest and buying their own fancy coffee now.
Regarding their over-roasting of beans - In their youth my son, and former daughter-in-law each worked for rival coffee companies. In that circle Starbucks was often referred to as Charbucks due to their over roasting. I like strong dark roasted coffee but Starbucks goes beyond that when they over roast their beans. I can drink Starbucks if I put milk in it, but not black.
I never understood the draw of a $6 cup of bitter joe. There are still car lines at two of the Starbucks in my neighborhood. Then again, I don’t understand the draw of In-n-Out.
That only leaves 41,000 Starbucks stores left standing. Starbucks has been working on making the stores more inviting, whatever that means.
Starbucks was a customer of mine many years ago and I witnessed some of their phenomenal growth and success. I drank Starbucks for years and bought my first espresso machine from them and ground Starbucks roasted beans for years. Even today there seems to be a Starbucks cafe on every corner in Downtown Seattle.
I still make myself a couple double espressos every morning but have not used Starbucks roasted beans for at least 20 years. My wife still buys an oat milk latte from Starbucks occasionally but with that much milk and some vanilla syrup, how much coffee can someone even taste?
In 2005 they tried to put one in an outdoor store in this town but they weren't doing any more franchises so they went with Seattle's Best Coffee.
I guess more people are realizing that they're paying $6 for a cup of.......sugar??
Not hardly... I think it's more like the competition is cutting into their profits. We have like... 4 or 5 of these places now just for $6 coffee drinks. It blows my mind. Dutch Bros, something called... 7 something? Oh, 7 Brew, that's it. And a Texas HTeaO place - a whole big like fast food restaurant that does nothing but drinks???
I don't ever go to ANY of them, but apparently plenty enough other people do to keep them open. But Starbucks... they seem to be losing market share. Maybe it's their corporate wokeism is catching up to them, I don't know. Whatever it is, it doesn't affect me personally. I'll still drink my home brewed chicory coffee every day. Expensive as coffee grounds have gotten, I console myself that I'm not paying $6-7 a cup every day of the week, nor supporting a company like Starbucks.
Yes. We now have Dunkin all over town, as well as Dutch Brothers, 7 Brew and several others. More total than there are Star Bucks in town. And I'll be honest - for my preferred black cup o' Joe, I don't mind McDonald's even. I don't eat there much at all, but I had a Sausage McMuffin and coffee this morning after we left an early medical appointment.
I also prefer McDonald's coffee to Starbucks. 100% agree. Of course, I think they're chargin' $3-4 now, too, but at least I can order a 'large' AND they don't look at me like something they want to scrape off their shoe (at least not for that) and it tastes better than that burnt crap.
They burn the beans, their coffee is horrible. There aren't any outlets anywhere near here. Make coffee at home, pour it in the insulated mug and hit the road.
I wish they’d close the one that’s a block from me, but it’s not going to happen. Their drive-thru is always packed and the parking lot is overflowing.
+1000 on not liking their bitter overpriced coffee. Only time I drink it is at an airport where there is no other choice.
Here’s to more store closures! 🍻
