When I lived in Reading, PA our neighborhood bar had a pitcher of tomato juice on the bar to mix in with your Genesee Cream Ale or Schaefer Beer that was on tap. Not me, I cannot drink tomato juice with or without alcohol. I'm not a real fan of any beer cocktails. As always, YMMV
Tomato juice and beer is one I should revisit. Haven’t had one for years.
Back in the day there was an old gentleman that frequented a local bar. They would give him a bottle of beer, an empty glass, and a syrup dispenser from the fridge that had tomato juice in it and he poured his own. Probably gave him a salt shaker too.
Boilermaker. My grandpa's favorite. When I'm feeling adventurous, I order one. Oddly enough, I've ran into a number of bartenders (younger folk) who'd never heard of it.
dpearce Yes if you want one here you need to go to one of the old style taverns of which there are still many. In fact, I’m sitting in one right now as I write this. Guess what I’ll order next?
Ahh red beer-a big YES on that. Any beer but I prefer a strong flavored one for red beer. My favorite is Jack Pine Vengeance, but if you're not located in central MN you may not have that locally. And Clamato. Especially good when you want a beer in the morning.
Yeah I saw folks in Mexico City drinking this, so had to try beer and Clamato. Decent. Keep you from getting too fudged up. I don’t care for light beer so I think I’ll add this to my hot weather rotation. 🤷♂️

I love Micheladas. Husband and sons-in-law think I'm wasting a good beer when I make one.
It's a nice cocktail when cooking outside on a warm summer afternoon. After finishing one or two, I can still easily find my smokers. That's the acid test.
BTW, thanks for the menu photo in your earlier post, SheilaAnn .
Finding your smoker is no joke. Negroni has been my bbqing drink of choice. As A. Bourdain says, “2 isn’t enough and 3 is too many” …so four + and I don’t even care how the food tastes. Definitely putting Michiladas as a goal for 2026.
Years ago it was Del Monte tomato juice and Budweiser in a heavy glass mug that was kept in a freezer. One of the best summer day drinks I ever had. My tastes can be pretty simple at times. I’ve only tried Clamato once, it smells too bad to drink.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
