As of today its a brand called Laker, Walmart sells Laker Red for $1.66 a tall boy.
PBR would be next you can grab a 6 pack for $10.50 or so.
My wife likes Coors Light and/or Bud Lite, you can grab a 6 pack for $16.95ish.
Quite frankly I haven't brought beer since Christmas because of the prices up here in the land of socialism.
And to really rub it in to the poor slobs that are un-fortunate enough to live up here, as of April 1st beer and liquor prices are rising 6% across the board up here in this dump of a country that I'm really beginning to get a hate on for.
    Rant over....

Wow! I think we are around a buck a can in Cincy. Maybe just a tad more. Towards the end of the baseball season we can get most all beer cheap<cheaper (fr a relative) because they try to dump the overstock.

Gotta remember up here, in Ontario at least, no private sales of beer and liquor.
Beer sales are controlled by a conglomerate of breweries thru Brewers Retail/The Beer Store.
Its just in the last 5 years or so beer sales have been permitted in select grocery stores.
Liquor sales are controlled by the Gov't controlled Liquor Licensing Board and only thru Liquor stores.
Wine is also controlled by the LLBO but is less regulated being sold at LCBO's, Grocery stores and Wine boutiques

Oh my, I forgot that beer and liquor are controlled by the government. I have not been to Ontario in many years. I'm originally from there.

Maybe a bock or a Maibock, those and a new Belgium triple are the most common that I keep around. I will home brew again this summer, I prefer to make my own, when time permits. But I also only have a few beers on the weekend,

Order liquid yeast before it gets too hot outside. Otherwise, stick with dry yeast for your brewing. I've used a couple of Belgian dry yeasts this past year I was pleased with.

Alan Brice I just do not enjoy any light beer. Huskee sugg I try Hamm's. It is on my list to try. I find that most beer today are way too hoppy for my liking. "Now get off my lawn!" ;-) Always been a BudMan.

yup, we can see that about hoppiness in the craft styles not being everyone's liking - some are WAY too hoppy.

We've gotten used to the "weight" of light beers, and find some of the non-light beers to just be too heavy for us. Heineken is too thick/syrupy for us, but Heineken Light is fine. Grolsch, same thing (and we have loved Grolsch in the past).

It's the same thing with Coke vs Diet Coke -- just can't drink the high-octane anymore, too dense a beverage for us.

Sometimes we want a lager, sometimes a pilsner. But if given a choice - probably going to grab a pale ale, IPA, or similar genre.... styles that are not typically found in the "cheap beer" aisle. Mainly because we're probably just going to have one or two.

    Maybe three.
    Occasionally four.

and we know craft beers are not "light" in the traditional sense of "Bud vs Bud Light". Certainly not. So we'll occasionally try to track down the lower alcohol/carb versions that some craft makers are pushing out for the more weekday drinkers. They'll still be craft beers, but not inexpensive enough to warrant being in the "cheap beer" aisle that this thread is about.

Busch light is my favorite and not as cheap as it used to be either.

Our favorite anecdote about cheap beer --- during some major weather event in the past few years, everybody was rushing out to the store to stock up knowing they'd likely be homebound for at least a few days (perhaps longer in some cases).

On the beer aisle, ALL the cheap beer was gone. ALL OF IT. Milwaukee's Best, Schlitz, etc. Completely wiped out. Higher end stuff? No problem - plenty of that to be had. Milk and eggs? Yup, still on the shelf.

And it wasn't just one store -- saw this across multiple markets of different branding that day.

Easily Miller Lite. For being so light it actually manages to have some flavor. As long as it's ice cold it's extremely crushable.

Way back in the day we did a blind taste test of cheap beers. Old Milwaukee won consistently.

These days I just con't drink much beer anymore. When I do (usually in the warmer weather) I pick Miller Lite for my cheap beer, Negra Modelo like Jim White or Shiner Bock. I also recently discovered Heineken 0 (zero) and was surprised how much I liked it.

Good question, I don't drink that much light beer anymore but actually prefer an Amber Style so any one of them is my favorite. For a Light Beer after working outside on a hot day I usually keep a Michelob Golden Draft or Grain Belt Premium Light on hand.

            Hamm's.

My wife & I did a blind taste test with Budweiser, PBR, Labatt, Busch and I think 1 more in a similar tier which I forget. We both picked Hamm's having no idea what was what. The full details: I did this test blind to my wife first, the next day she did it to me. We were in agreement. I don't hate any of them if I'm in the mood for a lawnmower beer though.

I haven’t had a Hamm’s in at least 26 years. I need to revisit that.

Its amazing what beer(s) you pick during blind taste tests.
I haven't participated in one in years but I picked a beer one time that I wouldn't water the garden with any other day.

smokin fool That's the beauty of blind taste tests, it removes the bias we consciously or unconsciously have. If you trust your mouth instead of a label you can often save good money!

Quality not quantity. I'll keep my 8.5% Space Dust. It really does not cost a lot more, considering I only have to drink half as many to get the same effect.

I like Space Dust but I don't put it in the same category as light lagers like PBR.

I love Space Dust! (Yeah, I know.) That one is really sneaky, you don't even notice that it's so strong until it's too late.

            For me in this order

            Miller Lite
            Coors Light
            PBR

About the only beer I drink is Michelob Ultra. So that’s my cheap beer vote.

As far as cheap... right now I would have to say "Hamm's". I saw it a few rows down from the PBR in the liquor store's cooler. Was a significant cost savings.

A recent foreman told me of "Schmidt". I have yet to find it.

I used to drink MGD all the time. I quit smoking cigarettes in 2008. MGD was a trigger for smoking. I didn't want to quit smoking and drinking, so I switched to red wine. Been a wino ever since..Lol..When I do drink beer, I can only drink a decent beer. Revolution Brewery Anti-Hero IPA is one of my favs now. I actually helped remodel their offices on the North Side of Chicago a few years back.
