Which is your favorite Cheap Beer?

Which is your favorite Cheap Beer and why?

According to an article by Insider, the popular vote landed on Coors Light as the better-tasting option.

However, Pabst Blue Ribbon was ranked higher than Coors Light in a list of best cheap beer brands by Taste of Home.

    The Bottom Line
In the end, we were happy to call PBR the best budget-friendly beer brand because it managed to be a readily available, flavorful, balanced and refreshing brew at a low price point. We could see this being a welcome addition to any party and an option enjoyed by the vast majority of guests.

My own beer is cheapest and best...

I can make a 10 gallon batch (two 5 gallon kegs) of a basic American Blonde for about $25, depending on if I have to buy yeast or have the yeast already harvested from a prior batch (what I do most of the summer). It's one beer I try to keep on hand during the summer, when folks come to visit and swim in the pool and eat BBQ...

Anyway, that works out to 23 cents per beer, for 12 ounce pours, or 31 cents per beer for 16 ounce pint glass pours...

Waster I thought of that after pitching a bunch of WLP300 yeast into two hefeweizen fermenters last Thursday - I could have kept even just 100ml of the big starter and done another starter from it down the road. Problem with hefe yeast is it never wants to flocculate... so I am not sure harvested yeast from the bottom of the fermenter will be the best yeast for future brews...

Next week I'll be brewing with WLP001 and will be sure to save some of the starter in a sanitized pint jar.

jfmorris I miss brewing. Haven’t brewed since Covid…just got too busy. Need to dust off my gear and get back at it. I miss having my own beer on tap…buying beer at the store stinks!

Santamarina my biggest issue is my son and son-in-law both now have keezers or kegerators - my son with 2 kegs on tap, my son-in-law with 11 (big one!). What it means is I am brewing big 13 gallon boils most of the time so one of them can take half the beer once its kegged... on the plus side, they do all the heavy lifting on brew day/night for me! . They have me brewing more than I need to, since I only have 4 taps here, and 8-9 kegs.

I’m a PBR man when washing down cheap beer. First, I grew up drinking it here in Milwaukee. A LOT of it. Second, I still like the slightly sweet taste. At least that’s how my taste buds receive it. Third, it’s really good when ice cold.

I’ve noticed through many, many, many trials that the spicier the food consumed, the sweeter the beer tastes.

I see a lot of Busch Light consumed in bars and at other public events/places.

There are only 2 beers that I’ll buy to put in my fridge.

      PBR and Labatt Blue.

I’ll usually drink PBR out because bars charge a ridiculous amount for Labatt Blue since they put it on their import list.

I grew up drinking Piels because a case was only $6 in the early 80s....
even us High School kids could afford that...lol.
Graduated from that to Bud for most of my heavy beer drinking days in my early 20s
I really don't drink much beer at this point in my life, so when I occasionally have one, it's usually not one that would be considered "cheap".
I'm more into Ciders these days....on a limited basis

I remember a college bar we went to back in ‘93 that had $1 pitchers of Piels on Wednesday nights. I didn’t make it to to many Thursday morning classes or Thursday afternoon classes either.

When we were really broke back in the day, we’d drink Blatz. We called it “Blitz”. That stuff was sooooo cheap. Tasted terrible though. Don’t know if they still make it.

It's definitely still around; I've had some within the past year. The old Blatz brewery in Milwaukee is, I believe, long gone. You use to be able to see it from the interstate when passing through, iirc. Apparently, it is being made under license by Miller, as is Hamm's.

We'd drink it back in the day, when broke, along with Red, White, & Blue; Rhinelander; Old Mil (a/k/a, Old McWally); Fox DeLuxe; and probably a few more I don't remember. And Meister Brau, when it came back for a while.

My wife's aunt used to drink Milwaukee's best.
The local beer distributor would keep several cases of it on hand just for her. Nobody else ever bought it. She was good for about a case a month..
Thinking about it, that's probably the last "cheap" beer I've had.
At her funeral, we had a toast to her memory with the last case that she had on hand when she passed..

Murdy the old Blatz brewery was purchased by Miller many years ago and operates as a brewery for Linenkugel brands these days.

Alan Brice - we've found we enjoy the richer(?) flavor of various craft beers. Plus, we're not slamming a case at a time like we used to, so we'd rather enjoy the one or two that we'd pop.

If we absolutely had to pick from a limited menu of the "cheap stuff", chances are we'd go with Bud Light over Miller Lite or Coors Light. Mic Ultra if we had to. Corona/Corona Light in a pinch. PBR has been had on occasion, but has to be the right mood

I just do not enjoy any light beer. Huskee sugg I try Hamm's. It is on my list to try. I find that most beer today are way too hoppy for my liking. "Now get off my lawn!" ;-) Always been a BudMan.

That's an absolutely great beer, especially when fresh (hard to find it that way in the States). One of the classics of the style.

PBR or Coors light in my early days, but when I got out of diapers, I switched to real beer. (He sez ducking and running... )

I do like a number of Mexican beers now.
