This is nowhere near downtown, but Loveless Cafe is one of my favorite spots in Nashville. I have never met a Canadian who likes/understands biscuits and gravy, but the breakfast there is top notch. The bbq is sneaky good, as well, but the fried chicken is probably the star of the show for most people.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I will second Hattie B's, and always hear that Prince's is better. For breakfast/brunch I loved the Nashville Hot Chicken & Waffles at Milk & Honey.
I spent more time than I hoped for this year up in Nashville, back in June, and a block from my hotel was a REALLY outstanding small Mexican place that had just opened, that I went too twice in one day, as lunch was so good. And Yvonne was in the hotel room doing bowel prep, and I couldn't eat in front of her...
The Mexican place was called Acapulco West End, located at 117 28th Ave N Nashville, TN 37203.
I was there the first day they had their liquor license, and drank the first beer they served at the bar... I posted a review of it here under Nashville restaurants, as I was bored sitting in the hospital.
This isn't BBQ, but while staying here in Nashville for Yvonne's surgery at Vanderbilt, I walked to a little cafe about 300 feet from the hotel we were staying in, which the sign called "Acapulco Burrito", but which the manager told me was online on social media (Instagram, etc) as "Acapulco West End". It
I found good BBQ at Peg Leg Porker and Martin's BBQ Joint. Martin's has places in several locations around the city, one thing I really like about there locations is the whole hog pits are right next to the dining room so you can see the hogs being cooked.
Dino's in East Nashville. Get the Joe's stye fries. Dang good cheeseburger. And it's just down the street from Porter Road. Total dive bar, it's awesome.
Homegrown Taproom & Kitchen in Donaldson. Killer shrimp and grits. About 15 minutes from SoBro.
Midtown Cafe, close to Vanderbilt. Really good breakfast. Get the smoked gouda grits, thank me later. There's a Hatie B's right around the corner too.
Tennessee Brew Works has a really good hot chicken sandwich.
Robert's Western World has a kick ass fried baloney sandwich.
There's a Taco Bell on Second Ave N. that has booze & live music. Seriously.
That's my standouts from two trips there
Oh, and if you care about music at all do the RCA Studio B tour and the CMHOF. So good.
