I sure hope some fancy New York Times food critic don’t steal my posting title idea for their own! ….
I visited 3 different wing joints the last few weeks for the first part of my goofy little wing reviews. I visited only national chains, instead of local places. Personally I’d rather hear about some place I already know about than some obscure place I’ll never have a chance to visit. To make it a little more even for each place, I ordered bone-in only instead of boneless and I tried to stay with classic sauces or rubs instead of some far fetched rub/sauce that only one place might serve. Most places serve bleu cheese or Ranch for dipping, I stuck with Ranch at each place. I also ate at least one wing of each variety first without dipping it in their sauce, didn’t want to obscure the flavor of the wing itself. First up………
HOOTERS
The service at Hooters was the best of any of the restaurants I’ve visited lately, including the recent hamburger joints. Both times I went there I was instantly greeted with a friendly smiling face and great service. I know what you’re thinking but it’s true…🥸 After sitting down it wasn’t long before I was greeted by my waitress asking about my drink and food order. 👍 I promise you, this was kinda rare at several places I’ve been. After taking my order she winked at me and asked for my number. She seemed kinda let down when I told her I was not available and that I’ve been seeing klflowers for a while. 😳 I ordered 6 of their smoked wings with a Cajun dry rub and Ranch dressing on the side, Dr. Pepper to drink. The wings didn’t come with fries or anything else, kinda expensive I thought for just 6 wings! Anyway, the wings were delivered to my table about 15-20 minutes later, piping hot! After eating 2 of the Cajun spiced wings with no sauce….these were pretty good I thought, spicy but not too spicy with a good flavor. If anything, I thought they were just a tad overcooked, but still good, even better dipped in the Ranch dressing….which was also pretty good! Don’t know what I was thinking only ordering 6 though, shoulda got the 10 piece. I mean, who the hell only orders 6 wings?! 🙄 Needless to say I was still hungry when I left. Total bill with a soft drink and before tip was $18.17

Looks friendly but she threatened me with a restraining order! 😳

NEXT STOP WAS BUFFALO WILD WINGS…….
It might be hard to believe but I enjoyed their hamburger I had there recently more than their wings. When I first walked in there was a sign that said to go ahead and seat yourself, which I did……and waited, and waited. After a good 4-5 minutes without a waitress in sight I finally walked up to the front service desk, no one was around and I had to call out for someone through the door! 😡 Some guy comes out and I told him I needed a waitress, he said sure, just a minute. After finally getting a server I ordered their 10 piece wings that came with fries, Dr. Pepper to drink. They had a spicy dry rub called Desert Heat, I ordered 5 wings with that and 5 of their Parmesan Garlic wings. Ranch dressing again for my dipping sauce. I tried one of the Desert Heat wings first, without the dipping sauce. I was hard pressed to find much “Heat” in these wings, or much flavor for that matter….and not much juiciness either. Bland and a little on the dry side were my first thoughts. I was looking forward to trying the Parmesan Garlic wings next…..but again I was left disappointed. They looked really good on my plate, but they also were a little bland to my surprise. Not much Parmesan or garlic taste….just kind of, meh. Dipping em in their “Ranch” dressing didn’t help much either. It tasted a little strange, not like any Ranch dressing I’ve had. While not terrible, the wings definitely had room for improvement. Oh, the fries were pretty good though!
You figure a place with Wings in their name would be better than this. Total cost for meal was $14.07 before tip.

ON TO THE WING STOP!
There’s a Wing Stop right around the corner from me and I’ve eaten there a few times before. Thought I’d hit em up today. I ordered their 8 piece wings, 4 of em with their Cajun Rub and 4 of their Original Hot Classic wings and their Ranch dipping sauce…they came with fries and a soft drink. As usual I tried both varieties first without the dipping sauce, didn’t want the Ranch to obscure the taste of the wings. Folks, this wasn’t even a contest! Wing Stop was the clear winner of the 3 places I’ve been so far. EVERYTHING about their wings was better than the other two places. First off, the quality of the chicken itself was better, forget about the spices/sauce/rubs. The wing pieces, both flats and drums, had much more meat on them than the others…..and they were perfectly cooked! Just the right amount of crunch/crust on them and were perfectly moist and tender inside. The Ranch Dressing was also spot on, as well as the hot sauce on them! The fries, meh, they weren’t bad at all, just kind of average tasting, but I didn’t come here for the fries anyway. All’s I can say is….the next three places I visit better get their game on!
Total cost out the door was $15.69 [no tip here, counter service]
