Yeah…Hooters. I swear, the things I do for you guys!
Most of my “away from home” burgers over the years have consisted of your usual fast food joints, Whataburger, Wendy’s, Jack in the Box etc. I thought I’d spend a little time this past week and kick it up a notch…and see what a few dollars more will get you in the world of fast casual burgers. Who came out on top? Grab your favorite adult beverage, read on…and prepare to be enthralled with my culinary investigation!…🙄
Chili’s…

Double Meat Mushroom Swiss Burger

I was thrilled to see they named the burgers after me!

One thing I liked about Chili’s is they give you the option to make it a double meat for $5.00 more. I was pretty hungry that day so I made mine a double meat mushroom Swiss burger…they did not double the cheese though, that’s extra. All 3 places give you fries with their burger, no extra charge. My burger came out hot and very juicy!..l used 6 napkins when it was over and done with! I received plenty of mushrooms on it, as well as the onions, lettuce and mayo. The fries were pretty damn good also! In fact, I had to ask my waitress, eh, excuse me… server, if they were fresh cut or frozen. Being a national chain, I was gonna be shocked though if they were actually fresh cut. They were frozen she said, but they kinda had the look of fresh cut. My fries were tasty almost all the way through my meal, but then became cool and a little soggy, mainly from my burger juices spilling onto them. Next…..
Red Robin

I ordered the sautéed ‘shroom burger

I ate at The Red Robin for lunch today. All their burgers are single patty burgers with one exception, their Monster burger. I didn’t ask how much a double meat would be, or if they’re offered. My mushroom/swiss burger came out piping hot and was pretty damn good! I was a little surprised that they didn’t put sautéed onions on their version, most places do. The fries came out hot as well, but that didn’t make the mediocre taste go away. They weren’t bad, but weren’t any better than you could get at 100 other places. The burger was the star here!
The moment you’ve been waiting for!

I think my waitress had the hots for me…please note smiley face she put on my napkin!

Most of the burgers at Hooters came with two 1/4 lb patties

I ordered a regular double meat cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles and grilled onions. Only after getting my bill did I notice my “grilled” onions were 50 cents extra…🙄 Fries came with the burger but I opted for onion rings instead, $1.49 extra. The onions rings were…ok, nothing special and definitely out of a bag. My burger was ok also, nothing special but pretty decent I guess. They put twice as much lettuce on it than was necessary, I just scraped off what I didn’t want. 🤷♂️
Overall I give the nod to Chili’s, followed closely by Red Robin and then…Hooters. The burgers at Chili’s and Red Robin were both equally good to me, but Chili’s fries gave them the edge over Red Robin IMO. I was kinda surprised at the high burger prices at all 3 places…most were from $13. to $18.!!! But I gotta tell ya, no one came close to the scenery at Hooters!
