The Big Burger Smackdown! Red Robin vs Chili’s vs…..Hooters?! 😳

Yeah…Hooters. I swear, the things I do for you guys! Most of my “away from home” burgers over the years have consisted of your usual fast food joints, Whataburger, Wendy’s, Jack in the Box etc. I thought I’d spend a little time this past week and kick it up a notch…and see what a few dollars more will get you in the world of fast casual burgers. Who came out on top? Grab your favorite adult beverage, read on…and prepare to be enthralled with my culinary investigation!…🙄

    Chili’s…

I was thrilled to see they named the burgers after me!

One thing I liked about Chili’s is they give you the option to make it a double meat for $5.00 more. I was pretty hungry that day so I made mine a double meat mushroom Swiss burger…they did not double the cheese though, that’s extra. All 3 places give you fries with their burger, no extra charge. My burger came out hot and very juicy!..l used 6 napkins when it was over and done with! I received plenty of mushrooms on it, as well as the onions, lettuce and mayo. The fries were pretty damn good also! In fact, I had to ask my waitress, eh, excuse me… server, if they were fresh cut or frozen. Being a national chain, I was gonna be shocked though if they were actually fresh cut. They were frozen she said, but they kinda had the look of fresh cut. My fries were tasty almost all the way through my meal, but then became cool and a little soggy, mainly from my burger juices spilling onto them. Next…..

I ate at The Red Robin for lunch today. All their burgers are single patty burgers with one exception, their Monster burger. I didn’t ask how much a double meat would be, or if they’re offered. My mushroom/swiss burger came out piping hot and was pretty damn good! I was a little surprised that they didn’t put sautéed onions on their version, most places do. The fries came out hot as well, but that didn’t make the mediocre taste go away. They weren’t bad, but weren’t any better than you could get at 100 other places. The burger was the star here!

The moment you’ve been waiting for!

I think my waitress had the hots for me…please note smiley face she put on my napkin!

Most of the burgers at Hooters came with two 1/4 lb patties

I ordered a regular double meat cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles and grilled onions. Only after getting my bill did I notice my “grilled” onions were 50 cents extra…🙄 Fries came with the burger but I opted for onion rings instead, $1.49 extra. The onions rings were…ok, nothing special and definitely out of a bag. My burger was ok also, nothing special but pretty decent I guess. They put twice as much lettuce on it than was necessary, I just scraped off what I didn’t want. 🤷‍♂️

Overall I give the nod to Chili’s, followed closely by Red Robin and then…Hooters. The burgers at Chili’s and Red Robin were both equally good to me, but Chili’s fries gave them the edge over Red Robin IMO. I was kinda surprised at the high burger prices at all 3 places…most were from $13. to $18.!!! But I gotta tell ya, no one came close to the scenery at Hooters!

    Chili’s….Burger A- , Fries A
Price for a double meat burger, fries and a fountain drink and before tip…$23.79

    Red Robin…Burger A-, Fries C
Price for mushroom Swiss burger, fries and a fountain drink, also before tip…$21.63

    Hooters…Burger C+, onion rings C, Scenery A++
Double meat with cheese and grilled onions [50 cents extra] onion rings and fountain drink….$21.63 before tip.

Great comparison. Never been to a Red Robin. I agree with your comment about the lettuce at Hooters. I couldn't see the meat in your burger picture due to all of that green stuff

Now, come back to Midcounty and compare Hamburger Depot, Navrosky's, and Daddyo's.

Gone here also but are in Houston. I read they are supposedly making a comeback under new ownership.

Used to be my favorite burger. 3/4 pound and fries dipped in that canned nacho cheese. A couple have reopened here but I haven’t tried them.

I loved Fuddruckers. I used to frequent it back in the 80's and 90's in the metro Atlanta area. I was over there on business a couple of years ago, and stopped where I had often gone to Fuddruckers, only to find it was long gone.

My fav at Red Robin's is the burger with the fried egg on top. It's probably $50 by now, if you can get it...

Yeah, this is the place I learned to do an egg on my burgers, and it's become a staple for me. It's amazeballs on a double-meat double-cheese smashburger from my own Blackstone in the back yard, and ESPECIALLY with griddled onions and burger glop. Man, about the only thing that beats that is when I ALSO add in homemade and then griddle pastrami on top of it, as well. HEAVEN IN A BURGER!

There used to be a Red Robin nearby. They kept leaving the wax paper on the cheese.

Chili's burgers are usually pretty good. For a decade my go-to order was "Bacon burger no tomato add jalapeños." Around 2019 or so I switched to nearly always ordering their buffalo chicken sandwich. They hand-bread and then fry them (they were pre-breaded prior) and it is so, so good. Plus it is healthier than a burger by....like 10 calories.

Not surprised at the winner but no scenery pics at Hooters?🤣

You should repeat this effort with some local mom and pop burger joints!

Yeah, you start takin' pictures of the scenery at Hooter's and might let the first one or two slide - but then you're getting escorted out. Especially when you look like PJ...

The only big chain you probably missed was TGIF’s. I doubt it would beat Chili’s.

Panhead John Which is a bit of a shame that they’re struggling, seeing as they were (are?) amongst the first with that concept. I have to believe that it’s a management/bean counter problem.

TGI Friday's closed in our area a decade or more ago. Same with another old staple of the 80's for me, Ruby Tuesday. I can't tell you how many blackened steaks I had at the bar at a Ruby Tuesday's back in the mid 80's...

I never heard of them till you mentioned it. Menu looks good! Apparently there’s one 10-15 minutes from me. They only have locations in 5 or 6 states though. 🤷‍♂️

If'n ya ever make it up further north in TX, especially the Metroplex, I'd highly recommend Twisted Root Burger Company. Looks like their closest one to you is Waco. I talked to 'em once a couple years back and they were wanting to open a franchise in Tulsa... it's prolly a good thing they didn't or I'd be all...

Hooters has burgers?!? I’ve never had anything but wings. It’s been over a decade since I’ve been there, but as I recall I like their wings.

Chili’s is one of our go-to places. Didn’t used to like their burgers, but my son gave me a bite of his not too long ago and it was not bad. Their soup and salad is my standard order, and when you get the bottomless S&S it comes with free chips and salsa…win win!

Red Robin is one of the places I’ll go if I’m really hungry because their fries, while not great, are all you can eat. When I want a lot of calories from junk food I’ll sacrifice quality for quantity.

Panhead John Shorter than they used to be? They barely covered butts when I used to go there years ago. Maybe the shorts are the same but the butts are not. 🍑I miss Hooters, I like their wings.
