If you consider Outback or Longhorn Steakhouse the top of the heap then I feel sorry for the folks with zero discriminating taste who voted for those poor excuses for a steakhouse. I guess if you lived in rural Nebraska and that was all that was available then maybe it would pass muster. Geeze.

The survey was specific about which restaurants were being surveyed about. Likely the "largest national chains" to start.

we've been in some towns where the steak buffet restaurant was THE place to go for fancy meals because they were the only local place with a steak selection.

@gboss: You are correct but hope you don’t let it ruin your day. FWIW for the survey: I like Jersey Mike’s better in the sub/grinder category and highly recommend their food quality, service and store cleanliness.

Doesn't ruin my day at all, as long as it's not surprise mayo.
Unlisted mayo is frustrating, but at least I know to be proactive and ask when ordering.
In some places, however, asking to hold the mayo is like dividing by zero on a mechanical calculator. They understand the words, it's printed on the ticket, yet it's still on my food. Surprise! When requesting no mayo, some folks' faces look like mine must have the first time I was asked, "how many ranch?" for pizza in AL: *Does Not Compute*

As usual, I don't much care for any of them. For sandwiches, the traditional Cubano at the Silver Ring, just down the street. For burgers, I love Red Robin's burger with the fried egg on top (how I mostly make them at home now.) For a sit down restaurant, Bonefish Grill (I think is owned by the Olive Garden people). For beach seafood, two locals: Crabby Bill's (the original on Clearwater Beach), and the Frenchy's Outpost on the Dunedin, Fla causeway (Frenchy's is a local chain.) If I'm stuck in the ATL airport in the early hours, PF Chang's opens at 6am. 6am shrimp fried rice rocks for breakfast after a long flight.

Ah, I knew it is one of the chains. You see how well I keep up with that stuff!

Clearly they didn’t ask me to take their survey. There’s a handful of places on both lists that will never get any of my money.

Longhorn can be hit or miss, but generally is pretty good.
We like 5 guys for burgers.
I tolerate Olive Garden occasionally because my daughter likes it.
I have no interest whatsoever in patronizing 5 Bucks.... Just regular (fairly priced) coffee for me.

I am not particularly a fan of chains so, while I've certainly been to most of the ones on both lists, it's been years for most of them. Point me in the direction of the nearest greasy spoon and I'm happy

I used to travel quite a bit for work in the midwest. I found that the small cafes and a few bars had the best food. I remember being in a bar in Decatur Il. and they were cooking burgers behind the bar. Saw a cockroach start to climb over the grill. The cook smacked it with his spatula and went right back to flipping our cheeseburgers. They were pretty damn good burgers!

I will eat at Longhorn, Outback, Chick-Fil-A, Jimmy John's and on rare occasion Arby's. Jersey Mike's is one I'd pick before Jimmy John's. The rest on the list I avoid. Cracker Barrel used to be good in my area but their service and food quality has taken a major dump, along with their sanitation rating. In March it was an 86.5 and upon re-certification in May it increased to a 92.5.

Our local Jersey Mike’s is excellent. I take their Italian, add the cherry pepper relish, and when I get it home I wrap it in foil and bake it in a 450° oven until the roll is crusty and the insides are steaming. Then I open it up, cover it with potato chips, and start moving my teeth.
