When Z-Grills first appeared in the US market, they had a similar absurd offer. I forget the details, but the pitch was buy a Z-Grill, keep it for 5(?) years and we'll refund your money.
I think I remember seeing that and thinking it was just to get their name out there. Enter the market with a splash. I’m guessing this is more of the same. And maybe to lock someone into potentially paying a ton of money if they don’t read the fine print.
I own a Z grill with the PID controller. I like it. But once I saw this stupid deal I was/am embarrassed to now own one. I guess some will fall for it. I hope mine lasts over 5 years.
I never judge owners who buy what they perceived as a deal. I do however worry about companies like this hurting the hobby. This is a big problem in the RC aircraft hobby, people buy a budget product that doesn't work and then never try again with a more quality product and that hurts the hobby community.
My first thought when I saw this promotion was why would anyone want to have to assemble 10 of their grills? Earlier this year, Z Grills sent their Backyard Warrior grill (retails for $650 on their website) to me in exchange for a number of unbiased reviews on my YouTube channel (I don't have to allow them to preview my videos, I just give the link to them after it's been published). I'm not the greatest at putting grills together and their instructions are bare bones. It took me all day and included a few head scratching moments.
The Backyard Warrior is a very attractive looking pellet smoker and so far, it functions very well. It does everything that you'd expect from a pellet grill. Even though it's rated to go to 450 degrees, I've used the High temperature setting to get it to 500 degrees. Once your desired temp is set with the controller, it does a good job of keeping the temp within an acceptable range. So far, I have not experienced any negative issues with quality or functionality.
But now that they have put this ridiculous promotion out, I'm fully expecting things on my pellet grill to start deteriorating in a few years. It's like they have tainted my perception of my grill. Moving forward, I would feel uncomfortable about recommending it on my channel if the company itself expects the grill to only last for a few years.
One thing you may want to point out on your videos, is that it's almost always cheaper to buy a zgrill at a store. I've seen them in grocery and gardening stores for 50% or more cheaper than direct through zgrills. Many of their grills are knock offs of other popular brands, not sure about the specific one you have but it's funny when they change 1 minor thing to avoid a lawsuit but that 1 minor things turns out to be extremely important to the operation of the grill.
ItsAllGoneToTheDogs Thanks, I didn’t know that they were sold in retail stores, let alone in grocery stores! They have a very interesting business model compared to other grill companies.
kenrobin I've seen them at Tractor Supply, Food Lion, Target, Walmart, I think Dicks Sporting Goods but it may have been our other sports store, etc... I'm sure they are in tons of other small chain stores as well.
