Mine should arrive today. I make a lot of soups and stews which now require many plastic bowls to freeze. This should be perfect! Will also keep the loyal FoodSaver in the mix until it dies.

zinfella , you can vacuum seal larger objects that by having the bag outside the chamber, as in a traditional vacuum sealer and using embossed bags. I haven't tried, but here's the faq for the USVX (maybe someone else can confirm the USV1 does it):

Woops. The deal is still good, and I "accidentally" ordered one. With all the sewing stuff my wife in buying lately, I figure I deserve a new toy or two. Still thinking about getting a single burner induction cooktop too...

That's one of the big reasons I got this: liquids. As I noted before, you should only fill bags halfway when doing liquids.Originally posted by carolts View PostMine should arrive today. Cool thing about using this for soups: you can stack your soups in the freezer.

I have gotten great deals on woot.com and eBay for 3 mil bags. Woot typically sells out fast, but I've seen them there a few times and snagged some 10x13. I probably have a 5 year supply on hand. I'm not sure I'll need 4 mil bags, as the ones I'm using hold up well (so far) when boiling bags.
They have flash sales on Avid, so sign up for text promotions (that's how I found the deal I posted here), and you'll save a little more if you prefer their bags.

1987 Weber Kettle (Still going!)
2004 Cookshack Smokette (The original!)
2012 Weber Genesis (Wonderful for steaks and chops!)
2014 Pit Barrel Cooker (Lovin it!)
Thermoworks Thermapen
Thermoworks Mini Handheld Thermocouple & Meat Needle Probe
Various other wireless remote thermometers
Beer...Bud Light (Timeless)
Anyone know where to pick up 10x10 bags? The Avid site seems to be out and not sure when they will be back in stock. Is 10x10 the largest bag that will work in this unit?
Thanks and have fun!

I haven’t opened the one I bought as it is a gift but the specs stated the 10x10 is the largest bag. No idea about when they will be in stock but an option would be to buy a roll of 10” wide and cut your own. Good luck on your search.

bep35 - I ordered THESE from Amazon. They're supposed to be delivered sometime in March.
Not a problem though, because my sealer arrived with a bunch of 10x10 "sample" bags (looks like about 50) plus I ordered and have received THESE 8x10 bags to tide me over.
I've tested the 8x10 bag capacity and they'll easily hold a pint of liquid ... and, if you're careful, 3 cups.
Meanwhile, like Donw suggested, you can cut down a roll ... or even a larger chamber bag if you really need to. It's a PITA, but it works.Last edited by MBMorgan; February 10, 2024, 09:42 AM.

SheilaAnn I just watched this video, you can seal bigger items externally in FoodSaver bags: https://youtu.be/DaeKQ8NCsXo?si=aWIEjE-xXv9W4-5S

Ok, just got it home and sealed my hot dogs. This is a nice machine for sure. Do yours make a high pitched whine type noise?

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." ~Benjamin Franklin
Just tried mine out for the first time. I vacuum sealed a bone from a pork butt for later stock use. The bone was tall enough to barely fit but it worked, apparently won't be able to seal anything much over 2 inches tall or so but I'll be using this sealer more for liquids. The Food Saver still works for larger items (I can seal a small smoked brisket with it).
Edit: Just vacuum sealed 10 lbs of ground pork with no problems. I like this sealer.Last edited by 58limited; February 11, 2024, 03:41 PM.

JohnPaul , I bought mine in a Black Friday sale, but got one size larger than I thought I needed, since that is usually how it works with me. Thanks for sharing the link for the bags, that is a good price for a harder to find size.

SheilaAnn Yes they arrived yesterday, Very fast ship time!!! They say 3mil and feel the exact same 3 mil thickness as those from Avid Armour. They are about 1/8th on an inch narrower, but I only noticed because I laid them on top of each other. Seal appears to be the same as well. I used 11 bags so far on 20 lbs Salmon and Catfish
Edit: They are Vacmaster branded BTW
