Meat Prices Really Are Coming Down!

Just returned from Costco, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much meat prices have come down. I’m starting to get that meat freezer itch, even though I’m the only meat eater in the house. Add these three to the primer packer I bought for $3.49/# a couple weeks ago, and my BBQ season is starting off 20-30% cheaper than last year. Cheers!

Wow. Those prices are quite a bit less than I saw there just one week ago. Great to see!!

I had the same experience with the same item at costco yesterday. Last time i looked at pork belly it was in the $50+ range for about 9lb. Yesterday it was down to ~$34.

I probably shouldn’t tell you I am getting pork bellies at $1.59/lb.

SheilaAnn I hear ya…… but $30/lb for prime ribeye is just out of my comfort level……I think if I prep the two side by side my pallet would say both very good but the $$$$ one not that different (says my inexperienced, noob cheap a$$ pallet…..🤣)

I sure wish I had a butcher shop with those kind of meat prices around here! Or a butcher shop in general. While there are one or two dedicated butcher shops around here, none are in my part of town, and the once or twice I've walked in one (years ago) the prices were way too steep for me.

I just got a single slab of BB’s at HEB for this weekend’s Mr. Bones cook, not too bad $2.97 lb. The 3 pack like you got Sid P was just a little too much for me by myself….freezer space is at a premium right now. They only had the “extra meaty” type, but this one is actually not too thick, just about right.

While I was there I picked up some Louisiana crawfish tails, luv me some crawfish! I might use this for an etouffe with a side of boudin. It was $12.97 for 12 oz…..Damn I wish they’d keep stuff like this at a full lb! 🤬

I disagree about that slab of ribs. At 2.72 pounds that is about as big as I like to see on a rack of those - otherwise they are too thick and meaty with dry ol loin meat. When I get the multi-packs of "baby backs" I always look for the ones that are under 3 pounds per rack.

Jim, yeah. I picked one that was thinner than the rest for that same reason.

jfmorris Same here. I rooted through a bunch of 10-11 pound three packs to find the 8.6 pounder I bought.

Yes and no around here, meat prices have been rising constantly, gotta look for sales and even then its nip n tuck.
Red meat is still a dream around here unless is ground beef which goes on sale once a month at Superstore so we stock up.
Chicken and pork, if I can live with the price I buy it.

I found a two pack of choice grade beef plate short ribs at Costco for $5.99/pound. I paid $11.98/pound for a prime grade rack at Wild Fork several weeks ago. For half that price I am sure the choice grade will be great. Good too see the prices dropping a bit. 👍

jfmorris They couple of times I've asked my Costco to cut something they said they didn't do that. They're not much better than your average grocery store.

Bkhuna I've never asked them to special-cut something at Costco, but in the past they have had no problems giving me an un-cut cryovac package of something they stock.

Almost makes me wanna go to a meat market, cept my two little freezers are packed, 1/2 with venison & a fair amount of Nueskes bacon. I’ll continue to gnaw as the prices come down just in time to go deer huntin again.

I just picked up 10 lbs of boneless skinless chicken breast fillets for $1.49/lb. It’s not beef, but that is some seriously cheap (and very versatile) protein.

The freezer is full, but I always check meat prices at Costco. Nothing’s changed from above, but I confirmed that our prime packer briskets are also $2.99/#.

Went to a nearby Costco yesterday not my normal Costco and found no Prime Beef period. How dare them! Full Prime Packers are never 2.99 per pound here in California when they do have them in stock. Ill keep searching.

That stinks, but you don’t have winter 😉. Assuming they have Choice briskets, what are they going for?
