Great idea.
One of the reasons I don't deep fry turkey, the oil throws my stomach for a loop, and people have burned down two houses around me in the past few years using fryers in the garage . Our houses are so closed together it wouldn't take much to take down a neighbor or two.
Walking the dog two weeks ago someone had a real good blaze going in his garage, he managed to snuff it out but it sure looked like it was real close to going the other way.

Until I gave it away recently, we had the Big Easy smoker, roaster, grill... same as this thing but a bit bigger and you could add wood chips.
Anyway, it works great. Sadly the basket is a bit cheap. I contemplated just using a turkey hanger instead, but then had a friend needing a cooker so I gave it to him in exchange for some beer. (home made stuff, it wasn't like going to the pawn shop for bud light)

My name is Josh, not Joey (surprise), and I reside in Central Ohio. I have been grilling since I could drive, and smoking for around 15 years. Over the past couple of years I have gotten more into just cooking, and really enjoy sous vide and the flat top. I find myself experimenting with different foods and new ways of cooking as an outlet to work stress. I use every piece of equipment I own regularly, with the exception of the electric smoker. That only gets brought out on occasion to make jerky.
My favorite beverage is bourbon. I typically have at least 8-10 bottles open at any given time. While I have favorites, I enjoy sampling new and different varieties.
I have had one of these for probably around 8 years now as I found a new one for under $100. If you go into it knowing it is not truly a fryer, it is more than worth the money. Not many cookers where you can get instant radiant heat all around your meat of choice. This thing does a great (and fast) job on whole chickens, wings, roasts, etc. it comes in very handy and is an excellent way to put a crust on some ham or re-establish bark in minutes.
edit: I have never and will never do a turkey in it. Spatchcocked and smoked is the way to go. Though I have often crisped up chicken in it.Last edited by Joey877; November 24, 2021, 08:41 AM.
