Sometimes, I just get tired of fried eggs, scrambled eggs, and even omelets for breakfast. But a couple of boiled eggs would be just the ticket for a bit of a different breakfast with some protein in it. But I don't cook boiled eggs for a variety of reasons, the biggest being that I hate taking the shells off of them. Oh, sometimes they will come off OK, but usually not. And in those instances, I will end up butchering the egg whites. Well, my daughter suggested an egg cooker available from Amazon for about $20 that is amazing. It steams the eggs to a perfect hard boiled consistency. It will also do soft boiled, but I've not tried it. The great thing about the cooker is that you creak the egg after cooking, and the shell just slides off, every time. It's amazing. It's called the Dash. And I would recommend it if you enjoy the occasional hard boiled egg. Incidentally, it will accommodate 7 eggs at a time. Great little device.

Good to know. My wife occasionally makes them in the Instant Pot and they sure do turn out way better than I can make myself via the traditional means, with that camo green yolk. I've also heard rice cookers are worth it.

Huskee I like my white short grain rice sticky and clumpy. I like my white long grain rice more dry and fluffy. Also, I have the inexpensive rice makers. Just dump in the water and rice and turn it on. You can buy rice makers with different settings for different rice types and desired consistency.....at least I think you can.

I believe the answer is yes, my rice cooker has the different settings for the different types of rices. As WI Bubba mentioned, I am guessing if you adjust the liquid ratio, it would come out more sticky and clumpy. I have a Zojirushi that a friend recommended years ago. It was a little spendy when I got it but I see it’s gone way up since I purchased.

I eat deviled eggs all the time, and put hard boiled eggs in salads. I routinely make a batch, and I also do in Instant Pot. Same thing, they are pressure steamed and shells come off easily. Good to know, in case my IP croaks. Thx.

Purc THAT is the age old question that nobody will ever answer. LOL
You wanna eat 6 eggs?
Nah, I’m good.
They’ll be boiled.
Six eggs, eh…no.
We'll take the yolks out, mix them with a little mayo & mustard and then put them back into the boiled eggs and give ‘em a little dusting of paprika.
Oh Dude…I’m in!

For people who still boil eggs in a pot, like me, here’s what I do and it works perfectly about 98% of the time. I learned this just through trial and error over the years. I boil my eggs for 12 minutes and then drain the hot water out of the pot. I then leave cold water running in the pot for a couple of minutes. Take an egg out and crack the shell against the sink all over, crack the hell out of it all over the egg. While holding the egg under cold running water, start removing the shell in bits and pieces. If the shell won’t come off smoothly, move to another area until the shell and membrane comes off easily. I ain’t no scientist but I think cooling the egg off immediately is key to removing the shell and membrane without problems.

I've watched every manner of egg peeling hacks on YouTube and prior to that America's Test Kitchen. Their methods sort of work. They usually call for only boiling so long (no more!) and rapid cool. One was not boiling but just under, say about 208 deg or whatever. Never did find me a fool-proof way that works every time always.

InstaPot is timed perfectly for eggs. With the wire trivet I can do 22 at once.
When it beeps lift the stainless liner out and cool everything with a fill of cold tapwater.
Drain and second fill half with cold TW and a double handful of ice. Eggs cracked by shaking the steel liner after first rinse. Before I can peel all 22, the water is so cold my hands are numb. Love HB eggs, hate when they do not peel properly. Prob solved.

Here's Kenji's take on boiled eggs:
The "problem" is that pots and lids are different. A heavy lid on a small pot increases pressure inside the pot and raises the boiling point. That helps eggs cook faster. Bottom line is that you have to experiment to find the correct time for the pot and lid that you use. The way I do it takes 13 min to for a perfectly cooked, (I actually steam them), egg. If I boil 2, I add 15 sec.
Plunging in cold water seems to be a common practice in most of the methods I have found, so I do that too. They do normally peel easily, but occasionally I'll get one that doesn't want to peel.

These tabletop kitchen appliances need to come with an upgrade that automatically extends ones counterspace to accommodate it! Like those options "pay for assembly" because this one appliance I kinda actually want, but I am out of space!

Been thinking about getting one of these. I eat a boiled egg every day with my salad for lunch, and like you said, sometimes the shells comes off easy, sometimes not. I did find that after steaming them, if you chill them fast, the shell seems to release a bit better.
My boss actually keeps one of these on his desk at work. So I know it's works as advertised.
