I either use gloves or a pair of pliers to pull it out. It is not in contact with hot charcoal for more than a couple minutes at most. However, it will still burn you.

Rec Tec Stampede
Weber Performer Premium 22.5
Adrenaline Slow n Sear & Drip & Griddle Pan
With a little prodding from family I decided to look into the details of producing and selling this divider.
Two Questions:
-Carbon steel or stainless?
-If stainless, 201 or 304?
Stainless is more expensive is why I ask.
Stainless won't rust if left outside.
I keep mine inside with the SNS when not in use. So not concerned with rust.

Here's one of mine, completed (I made two). All I did was to weld a little angle iron bar to keep it in place, so it won't flip/flop when adding briquettes.
It could probably be improved even more, but this is good enough for me. And it was 10 minutes work, so I'm happy :-)
As for stainless, skip 201.

I recommend you and Dave talk to each other. Perhaps he can offer them to his customers and you could share the profits. Or perhaps you could license the concept to him for a percentage.
But I'd buy one!
