You get what you pay for. If you buy half a product you'll get half the performance. If moving the water pan over is realistically something you'll do in your kettle, then maybe that product is for you. But when a person or company copies another's design by whole or half and then states it's better and more flexible than the original full product, you have to really analyze how gullible they think you are.
Oh boy...didn't mean to cause any hurt feelings here.
It is funny tho that you say the Grillaque copied the SNS. About 15 years ago me and few friends made some simple water troughs out of mild steel plate that were curved on the ends (longitudinally) to match the slope of the Weber kettle and the trough was about 3 inches wide. They worked fine to basically split the kettle in half with a hot side and a cool side and water in the middle. Nothing fancy and certainly mild steel rusts but the plate was thick enough that they were still in use until just a few years ago. So I think Grilla copied my friend Jeff's idea.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

No hurt feelings at all! I say if a guy can make something in his back yard, DO IT! But a company mirroring a patent-pending invention is way different than a homemade mod.
