Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I’m actually in the middle of a test cook now. I’ll report when it is done. jfmorris , it’s a solid sheet of steel, so everything pretty much just heats up to the same temp; I don’t think there is a ring of direct rising air. Or, if there is, it’s not that big of a temp difference to make a difference, like you would get with the S&S. And, it isn’t directional like the S&S.
Yeah, a Hovergrill would work well!
We’ll see. I have about another 45 minutes or so to go. So far, so good.
I'm a little late to THIS party
I've watched quite a few of Tom Horseman's YouTube videos, including the one mentioning this Weber accessory (no longer available it seems )
I found a DIY 'hack' using a Lodge 16" cast iron pizza griddle(?) as the diffuser and I've futzed with a number of options to keep it above the coals, some worked some didn't. Biggest short-coming on this (for me, and as has been mentioned) is inability to add fuel / chunks for long cooks
Started a new thread asking about the Aura Kettle Zone but clueless how to post pix or links <scratching head>.
This works well. If you fill the ring, and go minion method, you won’t need a refill on a rib cook; I can’t say regarding briskets or pork butts, though, those go on my BGE. But this will do four racks at once laying flat.
I did a follow up, on the cook, but lord knows where it is.
Sittin’ here with the post-bbq buzz.
It’s all pretty straightforward, there’s no “Where the hell does this go?†about anything. Ring goes on grate, charcoal goes in ring, fire goes on charcoal, plate goes on top, etc.

I used my DigiQ on this cook, mostly because I never do any
