Use a Brisket Knife to cut Watermelon?

Would you ever use a brisket knife to cut a watermelon? Yes / No? Why or why not?

Depends if it was ever probe tender.

cutting the rind, not just the interior.

The explanation we were given at the time? "A knife is a knife, right?"

I'm kinda particular about my brisket knife. I have others that will suffice.

I probably would not use a carving knife for watermelon. A chef’s knife generally has a better grip and is sturdier.

Having said that; when the watermelon needs to be cut, whatever tool is nearby. 😁

Not nearly as neat as using a knife, but, my grandfather used to pick one up right off the vine and drop it on the ground. Voila! We kids loved it!

All the time for a whole watermelon. No reason not to.

Only if it's a Japanese hybrid watermelon that run $25 /lb. plus shipping.

Yes. I've actually used my bread knife to cut a watermelon before.

Heck yes, if it's good and sharp. Best to buy an expensive knife. Really expensive if you want. Lol. Just trying to help.

My sister uses my carving knife to cut watermelon. Only problem I have with it that when she cuts through the watermelon the knife hits the counter. Not good

I cut a watermelon probably every other day, in the summer. The best knife for that is a boning knife. It’s longer than a paring knife, with a thinner blade and more control than a chef’s knife. The rule is the same as for cutting a whole primal of beef: once your knife starts moving, be decisive and don’t stop.

Cut the melon in half, along the axis with the stem.
Then cut those halves along the same axis, creating 4 quarters roughly equal.
Run the knife along the top ridge, down to the rind.
Cut perpendicular to that, an inch apart, along that ridge. You should now have watermelon triangles, attached to the rind.
Cut those triangles from the rind, along one side and then the other.

This is fast, easy, and creates almost no mess. Next time I do it I’ll take some snaps. That will be Tuesday.

              A large hammer works, too....

It depends on how big the watermelon is? I like using a fillet knife, I'll usually cut the end of the melon off so it will standup. Then start slicing the rind off, so when i'm done I have a whole naked watermelon I can carve into long slender pieces.

Depends on how bad you want the watermelon...seen guys drop it on the side walk and crack it open like an egg!
