fireboard or smoke?

So, I recently bought a smoke and it has woken us up twice because of how dang loud the remote is and the fact that it loses connection. One of the alarms was legit - I had a flameout in my pellet pooper, but because it was so loud, it woke the wifey up rather than being a more subtle alert on my phone.

Unfortunately while the Rec Tec 700 has wifi, it's app doesn't really do background alerts and when the app is open, all it does is vibrate for alarms, which is pretty useless IMO. I hope they add some functionality to have better alarms and background alarms.

Do the fireboard alarms work when the app is in background mode? Can you set a customer alert sound so that I can distinguish it from the normal iOS alerts?

Put me in the "Ignorance is Bliss" camp. I really like my Smoke. Couple of glitches here and there but despite those, I am into simplicity. One cook temp probe is fine to get me in the temperature ballpark.
I like the loud alarms and if I get one at an odd time (while sleeping) that's on me. Wife sleeps like a rock.
