I never pulled the trigger on that item. I really liked the concept of no wires but I've already got more temperature devices and probes than I need. So I thought I'll wait until this one hits the market and see what everyone thinks about it after actually using it.
I do hope you all get what you paid for and it turns out to be the best meat thermometer ever. If that's the case I'll buy one at that time.👍
At my age I never buy green bananas... not sure I'll be alive until they ripen.😆
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Either they're taking the time to get it right the first time or they're magnificent at making up realistic email updates and stories as scam artists. I still believe the former, I remain optimistic. Who knows maybe I'll have egg on my face. I've spent more on bad 'nice' dinners out, so if it's a loss no biggie.
I got mine a little over a week ago, and just did my first cook with it yesterday. It worked great, except that the Bluetooth range (like every other Bluetooth item I have) is about 10'.
I have yet to receive my 4 probes with block. But Meater produced several YouTube videos on how to use it. One is how to set up a WiFi extender. I currently have an iPhone 6, but also still have an my iPhone 4 without the sim card. So I am definitely going to try this option out.
I was gonna order one but talked myself out of it when I realized that my maverick couldn't reach my room and its transmitter was outside the heavy metal smoker. So decided to hold off until it was being sold and got some reviews about the transmit distances. Now I'm glad I did.
Seems like they are shipping in a particular way, at least the early backers are not all well served. Furthermore I read on their Facebook page not all positive news like slow temperature readings and wireless means very "close" to the BBQ, perhaps not all that bad because I am always 'near by'. Also I read some info about the maximum temperature of the core-meter (100 degrees Celcius .... hey I'm from Holland ;-)
and a dome temperature of 275 degrees Celcius) Dunno if that will work in daily practise. All in all I was interested (ofcourse cause who needs the wires) but I think I will wait for a year and read the reviews first.
For now my first choice was, is and stays the Fireboard. Downside is that no fan can be controlled, Upside is that mister Ted himself mailed me that the fan-controll option (through the Aux port) is nearly finished and ready for sales. I count on his words.
I just received my FireBoard! Set it up and have already installed the Ambient probe into my KBQ. Played around with the Android app and linked it to my Alexa. Very nice device. When I get my 2 Meaters maybe they will be for kitchen duty... Or Ebay ;-)
The reviews that are trickling in as far as metal BBQ's are not great - but lets face it, most BBQ's are big Faraday cages and don't let much signals through (or smoke out!). For oven and gas grill use - they might be ok.
Unfortunate that the ThermoWorks probes don't register the correct temperature with FireBoard. The plugs are the same size but the readings are way off.
Fireboard uses RTD, measuring the change in resistance. Thermoworks uses thermocouples, measuring a difference in electrical potential. So, plugs are similar, but the inside of the probe is completely different.
Actually don't use the Thermoworks probes. I learned my lesson there. I had to reinstall my app after trying to use the Thermoworks probes mid cook. Don't know why I did really as I have 6 Fireboard probes. Just thought I would be the cool kid on the block. Did not work!
Reese Bobby from "Talladega Nights": "Oh hell, Son, I was high that day. That doesn't make any sense at all, you can be second, third, fourth... hell you can even be fifth." Translation -- you do your best, that's what matters!
Using a medium Green Egg, and yes, I have a Thermapen!
I am hearing that bluetooth range is not that great with the Meater probes. I have yet to receive my 4 probes with block. I hope my holdup is not due to them not have the block charger ready. But Meater produced several YouTube videos on how to use it. One is how to set up a WiFi extender. I currently have an iPhone 6, but also still have an my iPhone 4 without the sim card. So I am definitely going to try this option out.
I'm not surprised about the range issue. Hopefully the WiFi extender mode will work fine. Like you, I also ordered the block. Now that their app supports this mode with any mobile device...kind of useless.
I also paid the whopping $1 for updates, sounded intriguing but not sure about it working. So now I see that they're shipping, for reals.
Anyone get their shipping confirmation/Meater yet? I am surprised that one hasn't appeared on Meathead 's doorstep (if it has, has he had a chance to review it????). I am looking forward to hearing reviews when it becomes real!
I have been using my MEATER with great success! I pair it with an iPad via Bluetooth. The iPad stays in my garage (out of the weather and sunshine) within Bluetooth range. I then use my iPhone to keep track of the cook via a "cloud" setup. This can be anywhere! I have been at the store buying groceries and have been able to check on the cook. Very cool.
You can set alerts so that you don't over cook the meat or alerting you of fluctuations in ambient temps.
The only negative so far is that the Bluetooth connection gets "lost" frequently. However, it reconnects right away so, it's just an annoying alert that pops up. Really doing no harm.
I am am a happy customer and the customer support seems good so far.
Great to know! I've been enjoying my Fireboard so much that I forgot I was waiting on my meater reward. At least if it comes I know it should work. Thanks for the update!

They Bluetooth to the nearest "thing"… a phone or tablet with the single probes. Then, the app on that device will transmit to the cloud via WiFi and then you can get it anywhere. This would be a great use for an older phone or tablet that you setup and leave in close proximity to the grill.
The Block edition (still being designed and tested) eliminates the first phone/tablet and provides a charging dock/base station in one. It receives the BT signal and broadcasts to the cloud via WiFi.
Well, I got a notice from my email program that it wasn't getting emails from the email address I provided 3 years ago when I made my Kickstarter pledge. I had to reboot that server (give it a swift kick in the arse!), and then I got the Meater email from October 4th. I opted to swap out the block for the Meater+.
Lol, not biting! I have not even thought of participating in another Kickstarter campaign after this one. Apption Labs ruined it for other legitimate starters Imo.
Powersmoke_80 I’ve gotten into the habit of when a project starts to look squirrelly (usually a ton of backers or when the creator starts being evasive), I’ll drop to a $1 and grab some popcorn ðŸ¿😂
