Definitely used mine for this more than I did for BBQ or cooking. But it was a great gun. It's dead now, I think I left it out in the rain. <sigh>

I gotta get a cat. Like Mosca , after using on my griddle and pans and pizza oven and grill, you know fairly well what the temps are, but I also still gun them mainly for OCD reasons.

Same here. Once you use it a couple times you generally know what the temp is so now it does more dust collecting than temp reading. GolfGeezer

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I have that one. I also have the cheapest one I could find on Amazon, I think it was $11. They are exactly equal in temperature.
I use this one because it cost more, but either one works fine.

Yep: the laser target, adjustable emissivity, etc.
What I think is cool is that if you use it all the time on the griddle and on cast iron, you know pretty much what the temp will be without using it. And I stop thinking about it as temp and more as in time. Like “The pan will be the right temp in about 90 more seconds,” rather than “285°… 293°… 305°….”
I still use it all the time though; why not? But I don’t have to any more, specifically because I’ve used it so much!
-
Yup, I had one from Thermoworks and one cheapie I got on W00T. The Thermoworks is dead from leaving out in the rain I think - the Amazon cheapie still works, in spite of the same thing. Meh, oh well.
