What's The Funnest (Or Strangest?) Thing You Use Your Instant Read Thermometer For?

I’ve checked the crust of Detroit style pizza. It’s like BBQ - when the crust is up around 200° it’s done or close to it.

I use it to temp all online cold/frozen food deliveries, each time hoping to find all the food below 40°.

I temp my coffee with it, but find (as Panhead John noted) that the remote thermometer works just as well and doesn't have to be cleaned off. For me, 137-142° is the sweet spot.

I have a Koi pond and cut back on their food when water is below 60F and stop feeding altogether below 50. I use it to monitor the water this time of year.

When I lived on a mountain in TN, I tested soil temps in my yard to time when it's warm enough to put down a preemergent in the spring.

• Stab potatoes for softness before mashing
• Calibrate oven temp setting
• Test freezer when having compressor issues
