Yo! Were you still looking for a board of some kind? Might be able to dig something up. Let me know a size you are thinking and if you want cutting board or charcuterie.

Hahaha, I will have to keep that in mind. I made a brisket board in September. 20 X 30. It is a real beast. You'd love it.

Here is one of my favorite boards I made last weekend. I kinda threw this together from some cut offs that we had laying around after making all the other boards. The main part of the board is a solid piece of Padauk. The bottom is framed with Walnut and the sides with some purple heart.

I put tenons into the purple heart before applying the wood glue to make sure it would stay put. I really love the way this piece came out. And that Padauk is absolutely stunning under the light. I plan to put a few low-profile feet under the board to make it easier to pick up.

This is a small board, only 5" X 8" so I am thinking it will make for a great little cheese board or maybe a cocktail board. Either way, it is nice to make something like this from "scrap". I will certainly be making more of these.

Thanks! Headed back into the shop tomorrow to crank out a few more cutting boards and then, hopefully some more charcuterie boards.

@Spinaker That looks awesome! Love the colors! Did you use a router for those tenon joints? I have been wanting to experiment with making cutting boards as well and was thinking about picking up a biscuit joiner but I don’t think that would work for the joints smaller frames. Tenons should hold forever!

No, I use a Festool Domino 700. It makes it really slick and easy. It a great tool. For normal boards just glue them up. They are actually really easy to make, just a lot of sanding. I used the Domino cause I was framing that board.

Your boards are off the charts nice (I'm friggin' jealous), and your 'cue is always spot on delicious looking, but dude, that pic of you in your avatar is creeping me out. That gotta go

And oh by the way, I'm in the market for one of those serving boards. I'll buy if you fly

Well, I am back at it. I have this batch glued up and in the clamps! Should be ready tomorrow afternoon for the planer, router and sanding. I went heavy on the Walnut this time. I wanted the colors to be more like simple accents. I think this is gonna be a great batch!

Yep, just Tightbond III wood glue. I did put tenons in a small Board I made above but that needed it. HawkerXP

HawkerXP We got these for making doors. We made 56 doors for my buddies place. They also happen to double as a rack for glueing cutting boards. I can glue up too 12 boards that are 20".

Here is a shot of them when they are empty. The rails have notches for locking in the clamps from above. You get really nice even pressure from the top and front and back so everything stays really straight. The is great for making boards (and doors) because the wood all stays aligned in the racks.

I got another round of boards done this weekend. These were made with more Walnut this time. I added some Padauk, Zebra wood, Purple Heart and hard maple. The strips of hard maple really help to make those colors pop on the boards. The first photo is oiled up and ready for the Xmas tree. I really like how this boards turned out. These are all edge grain boards, which helps the boards resist those knife marks, although you do loose some of that beautiful face grain patterns, you still have a gorgeous board and it is a design that will last a long time.

The rest of the boards need a final sanding at 220-grit then they will get some oil and some of my homemade cutting board conditioner. These were made with walnut, hard maple, Padaukan and Purple Heart. All of these woods will darken over time and I cannot wait to see how they change.

I also made a couple of cheese boards. The first one is just Purple Heart and Zebra wood. I made this board about 3/4 of an inch thick and I went with face grain since there will not be any heavy cutting on this board. I picked up some handles from the HD and I will put them on as soon a I get the oil and conditioner applied to the board. I am really happy with how this one turned out. And I hope my SIL will too.

This second cheese board was made from some live edge walnut and I threw in a stipe of Chakta Verga for good measure. I was really happy with how this one turned out as well. I still need to add some oil to this one as well, then screw in the handles. Also, it was tougher than I thoughts it was going to be; clamping a live edge board together for glueing. But I got it done with some ingenuity and patience. What so you all think?

Finally I made a whole bunch of charcuterie boards too. These will be finished sometime after the holiday when I have some free time. But I think they all came out pretty awesome too.

Well I got some sanding down and added some oil. I need to let these sit over night then I will buff them out. I think they turned out really well. That oil makes it pop.

Yep, Walnut that I picked up from a saw mill. They are just the discards they can't sell for lumber, so I get them for free. You can't beat that price. Loren
