- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Well, I never made it out to Academy, or bothered to order any cast iron, so just sorta let it slide. When opening some Father's Day presents last night, not only did I get the rotisserie I expected for my Genesis II gas grill, the wife came out with a big heavy box, which ended up being the Lodge 5 quart dutch oven. I had pretty much decided on the 7 quart, but you know what - this 5 quart is pretty darned big, and if I want to bake bread in a dutch oven, probably a better size to start with.
She said I could take it back and swap for whichever one I wanted, but I think I will stick with the 5 quart she chose. It's the one with the wire bail handle (L8D03 I think) - they don't have the one with the loop handles at Academy, I supposed because this one is better for hanging over a camp fire.
