This is a Chicago Hardware Foundry DO. And A very nice piece at that. These are highly collectable and sought after. In excellent condition, these can fetch a few hundred dollars is you sold them to the right person. (Not that you want too!)
I do not have any of these in my collection but I would love too. Make sure to hang on to these pieces, they are true pieces of American history.
Chicago Hardware Foundry was bought buy Piqua in the 1930's. And with it, went many of the hammered DOs and lids. You have a true work of art there!

That is a great gift. Congrats. I have my mother's iron DO. She passed away about 25 years ago. I always think about her when I use it and especially when I make her Chicken and Dumplings (which I just made last night). I can still hear her telling me when she made them, "ok, after the last dumpling is dropped in, put the lid on and set the timer for 10 minutes. Don't take the lid off until the timer goes off. Remember - 10 minutes...... no peeky". I have that exact phrase on the recipe card. My kids know it by heart.
