What is the "Great Giveaway" Monthly Sweepstakes?
This is a monthly sweepstakes for members or other entrants with an address in the US. Each month a third party sweepstakes administration company selects (4) winners at random from all eligible entrants. Grand Prize and Second Prize winners get to pick a prize from their respective groups of the available prizes as listed on the prize page for free, no strings attached, including free shipping to the 48 contiguous US states. Third and Fourth Prize winners are sent the prize pack as described. You do have to report the winnings if they are worth more than $600 on your taxes, and when necessary we will email the winner a form to fill out if the prize is valued at $600 or higher (all Grand prizes are), which must be returned to us, filled out in full, in order to accept your prize. Check with your accountant or tax preparer if you win to avoid surprises. For the full list of rules, see the bottom of this page.
What are the cutoff dates for each monthly Sweepstakes?
Mailed-in entries for all non- and Free Trial Members must be postmarked by the last day of the previous month and received by the 7th of the Sweepstakes announcement month. Automatic entry will be granted to all eligible paid Pitmaster Club Members who are in active status (not past due/lapsed) at 11:59:59 p.m. CT on the end date. For instance, for June's Sweepstakes the end date would be 11:59:59 p.m. CT on May 31st. In addition, any mailed-in entries postmarked by May 31st and received by the 7th of June would be eligible for June's Sweepstakes.
Why is it for US members only?
Most countries have laws governing contests like this to make sure they are honest. In the US they are regulated by the Federal Trade Commission. It cost us $3,000 to have lawyers write our rules that put us in compliance with US law and we pay an annual fee to have the winner drawn at random by a third party. We have members in more than 20 countries and we could never afford to do legal compliance for all of them. In addition, many of the manufacturers do not ship outside the contiguous 48 states, and most will not ship outside the US at all, and even if they did, the shipping costs and customs charges are prohibitive. And no, we cannot offer free memberships or something else as a prize to non-US members because that is still considered a "prize" and therefore "a sweepstakes". We cannot offer discounts to non-US members because that's in effect charging more for US entrants' sweepstakes eligibility and would be considered charging for the sweepstakes, and that is illegal. Not our choice, it's the law of the land so we have no choice! But there are many many other good reasons to be a member!
How is the winner notified?
The winner gets an email from us at the email address supplied in your account details when you joined, or whatever is currently there if you've since updated it. To check which email is on file, click My Membership in the main red menu bar, then > My Settings from the drop down menu, then click the Account tab on the My Settings page. If you need us to change the email address on your account, click here to fill out the Change Email Form. We also make an announcement right there in the Pitmaster Club forum as mentioned previously, and we clearly indicate the winner's username (if a member) and we "tag" them, or the winner's actual name (if a non-member). So be sure to check your email and watch our posts here in this Announcements > Great Giveaway Monthly Sweepstakes channel! Nearly every month one or more winners forfeit by not responding in time!
If I win, can I accept a different Prize?
Maybe. If you'd rather accept a prize in a lower tier, for example, if you are the Grand Prize winner but would rather accept a prize from the Second Prize choices or the Third Prize pack, that might be able to happen if both 1) that current Prize winner has not yet responded and claimed their prize, and 2) you are only trading down to a lower tier. If both those are the case, then you can likely trade down and that winner would bump up to the higher Prize that you are deferring. Please contact Huskee at Huskee[at]AmazingRibs[dot]com if you are the winner and would like to do this.
If I live in Alaska or Hawaii am I still eligible?
Most large prize vendors (grills and smokers) will not, or cannot, ship outside the contiguous 48 states. Some smaller prize items can be shipped to AK & HI. We will take this on a case by case basis, and if the winner is willing to pay additional shipping charges, if necessary, for items whom vendors will ship to AK or HI, this may be able to be arranged.
