PitCast Episode 112 - "The State of AmazingRibs.com and YOUR Questions with Meathead" PART I - June 21, 2018

    PART 1

In this Pitcast, Meathead emerges from the depths of the book writing coven to give us an update on the state of AmazingRibs.com, what's new and what we can expect in the near term. We also start on the questions YOU asked in the thread the other day. I quickly realized that getting through all of the questions in a 25min time frame was futile...so it will be broken up in to (3) parts...the first being this one!! If you do not hear your question this time around, you might hear it next week or the week after. Thanks for taking the time to write them down and submit!

Maybe, if the public demands it, we could do a monthly Pitcast with Meathead answering your questions. Let me know your thoughts on that as well below!! So, enjoy part 1 of this 3 part series!!

Meathead I think we should all get and have to wear Amazing Ribs chef's hats like the birthday hats! We would look like professional convention attendees that way....

I don’t think he really answered the <$750 question :-).

Its not easy. He wanted to say pk360 but that’s a bit over. I love my pk360 but I put significant effort into optimizing it, building custom fire baskets etc.

My recommednation would be a 26” kettle plus SnS-XL, DnG, easyspin ABC grate, plus a large vortex, and either a cyberq, or fireboard with control and a pit viper fan with kettle mount.

I dont think anything could beat that versatility for ~$750.

But im still itching to hear meatheads answer :-)

Struggling to find a solution to the rain getting into my 360 without a cover.

I made a pk360 cover the shield the upper vents. I describe it elsewhere on here somewhere but it’s in my avatar. I’d recommend a couple (4) of bricks with a large aluminum water heater drain pan in between and set on top. Kind of like my PBC hat.

My vent cover for the pk360 (avatar) works but involved drilling a couple holes and mounting threaded rods to support the shield. It’s easy enough to use washers and seal the holes.

If I had to do it again I’d shape a couple 2x4s to match the curve of the pk360, then bolt them through to a water heater drain pan and attach a few bricks on top to weight it down so wind won’t move it.

Finally found 25 minutes to sit down a listen to this, good job as usual Greg. Also happy to hear Meathead ‘s discussion and announcements concerning the Meat Up. I like the idea of touring bbq joints and generally socializing, been to too many things like this that have a "convention" feel to it. This sounds like great fun.

Although I realize meeting in a centralized location makes the most sense, ask Meathead if Austin is on the short list (if you get a chance).

I wanna hear what his favorite whiskey/scotch pairing with what cigar is for while BBQing. I don't accept "I don't drink" or "I don't smoke", lol Meathead

Oh, I drink! I'm wine first, beer second, bourbon third, cognac fourth, scotch fifth, selected other spirits, cocktails next, cordials next.

Wow. That was a fast 30 minutes. Really. I look forward to the other two. Meathead BBQCentralShow my kitchen at work is loaded with Heston equipment. That's a conversation for another day though. Well, at least they are pretty. I use their flattop (plancha) and that rocks!
